Chapter 65 - ch.65

The warm glow of the Primordial Flame cast soft, flickering shadows across the sanctuary as the students and teachers slowly gathered back around its core. After the revelation about the flame's flexibility, the mood was both contemplative and curious. Many of the students were intrigued, some eager to explore the deeper mysteries of the flame, while others remained cautious, unsure if they were ready to confront the truths the flame might reveal.

The High Priest, sensing the readiness of the group, stepped forward once more. His voice was calm but carried an undercurrent of authority. "For those who wish to explore further, there is another path available to you. It is called the Ritual of Reflection. This ritual allows you to stand before the flame and reflect upon your innermost self. It is a time of meditation, a time to connect with the flame and to allow it to reveal what lies within your soul."

A murmur passed through the group as the students exchanged glances. Some looked intrigued, others apprehensive. The Religious Studies Professor leaned forward, his scholarly curiosity piqued once again.

"Those who wish to take part," the High Priest continued, "may step forward when they are ready. You will stand before the flame, in silence, and allow it to guide your thoughts. The flame will not judge you—it will only reveal what is already there. For some, this may be a moment of clarity. For others, it may bring challenges or realizations. But know this: the flame is here to help you grow, to strengthen your connection to yourself and the world around you."

The High Priest gestured toward the center of the sanctuary, where the Primordial Flame flickered brightly. "You may step forward, one by one, when you are ready."

The students remained still for a moment, processing what the ritual might entail. Aetherion, standing near the back, watched closely. This was another pivotal moment. If they experienced the flame's power during this ritual, it would deepen their connection to the Order, whether they realized it or not.

"System," Aetherion whispered. "This is a subtle but powerful way to plant seeds. Those who participate will feel a bond with the flame, even if they don't fully understand it yet."

The system responded with quiet approval. [Yes. This ritual is an important step. Once they feel the flame's influence, they will seek it out again. And with each experience, your influence grows stronger.]

The Religious Studies Professor was the first to step forward. His scholarly nature made him eager to engage with the flame in a personal way. He stood before the fire, his hands clasped together in silent meditation as the flickering light danced across his face.

For a long moment, he stood in perfect stillness, his eyes closed as he allowed the flame to reveal its truths. The students watched with bated breath, curious to see how the ritual would affect their teacher.

After what felt like an eternity, the professor opened his eyes, a soft smile playing on his lips. He turned back

to the group, his voice calm but filled with quiet reverence. "The flame… it shows you what you already know, but perhaps have been too afraid to acknowledge. It doesn't force anything upon you—it simply reveals. I feel… lighter, as though a burden I didn't even realize I was carrying has been lifted."

The students exchanged glances, their curiosity growing. Seeing their professor, who was typically so analytical, so moved by the experience, had an impact on them.

One by one, more students began to step forward, drawn by the possibility of discovering something deeper within themselves. The Advanced Magic student who had touched the flame earlier was next. He approached the flame with confidence, yet there was a hint of uncertainty in his eyes.

As the Advanced Magic student stood before the flame, the flickering light illuminated his face. His posture remained strong, but his expression softened as he delved into the depths of his own thoughts. The Primordial Flame glowed brighter, almost as if it was responding to his inner turmoil.

When he finally turned back to the group, his voice was low, but firm. "The flame showed me something… something I've been avoiding. It made me confront a fear I've had for a long time—a fear of failure. I've always pushed myself to be the best, but I never admitted to myself how afraid I was of falling short."

There was a moment of silence as the group took in his words. The flame had revealed his insecurities, but it had also given him the clarity to face them.

A few more students stepped forward after him, each having their own quiet and profound experiences with the flame. Some were shown moments of self-doubt, others their hidden strengths. The flame revealed their inner truths, offering them a sense of peace and understanding.

As more students completed the ritual, Aetherion stood back, observing with a sense of satisfaction. Each student who participated in the ritual was now bound more deeply to the flame, whether they realized it or not. The flame had shown them their vulnerabilities, their strengths, and their potential. And with each revelation, their connection to the flame—and to Aetherion—grew stronger.

"System," Aetherion whispered inwardly. "This ritual is doing exactly what we hoped. They're not just connecting with the flame—they're connecting with me."

The system responded, its tone calm and measured. [Yes. Each of them now carries a piece of the flame within them. They may not fully understand its significance yet, but they will. The flame's influence will guide them, and they will return to seek more.]

Aetherion nodded slightly, his gaze fixed on the students. This ritual was not just about self-discovery—it was about planting seeds. Seeds of loyalty, of curiosity, and of faith.

Not everyone in the group was eager to participate in the Ritual of Reflection. A few students hung back, watching the others with a mix of curiosity and hesitation. One student, a quiet girl from the Religious Studies class, seemed particularly nervous. She watched as her classmates stepped forward, but she couldn't bring herself to join them.

The High Priest, noticing her reluctance, approached her gently. "You are not required to participate," he said softly. "The flame calls to those who are ready. If you feel uncertain, there is no shame in waiting."

The girl nodded, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "I'm just… not sure if I'm ready to see whatever the flame might show me," she admitted quietly.

The High Priest smiled kindly. "The flame will be here when you are ready. It reveals only what you are prepared to face."

This reassurance seemed to comfort her, and she stepped back, choosing to observe rather than participate for now. But even as she watched, her eyes remained fixed on the flame, as if she was still drawn to its light, albeit with caution.

As the ritual came to an end, the students and teachers who had participated in the Ritual of Reflection gathered together, their expressions thoughtful and contemplative. Some looked relieved, others seemed deep in thought, as though they were still processing the revelations they had experienced.

The High Priest addressed the group one final time. "You have taken an important step today. The flame has shown you pieces of yourselves that perhaps you had not yet recognized. Take this time to reflect on what you have learned, and know that the flame will always be here to guide you, should you seek its light again."

The students and teachers nodded, and slowly began to disperse, returning to their quarters within the sanctuary. There was a palpable shift in the atmosphere, as though the flame's presence had left a lasting imprint on each of them.

As Aetherion watched them go, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction. The Primordial Flame had done its work. These students had experienced its power, and now, they would carry its light with them. His influence was growing, one follower at a time.
