As soon as they crossed the gate, they barely had time to catch their breath.
The place seemed eerily quiet, but only for a moment — then Peter's spider-sense flared up, sharp and violent, like a gunshot echoing through his skull.
Danger! Down!
His body moved on instinct before his mind even registered why, leaping high into the air and clinging to the metallic ceiling just as a surge of electric energy scorched the ground beneath his feet.
Blue sparks burst around the team — Flash, Shazam, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Hawkgirl, Batman, Wonder Woman — their bodies jolting all at once under the shock.
Clinging tightly to the ceiling, Peter exhaled slowly behind his mask, watching them as they struggled.
"Well... a warm welcome, as usual," he muttered dryly, his eyes already scanning the room for the source of the attack.
"Next time, let me go first... seems like I'm the only one who got the special invite to dodge that shock."
Lowering himself back down, Peter kept his guard up as his teammates tried to regain balance, but he quickly noticed something off — the heroes from the other dimension had vanished.
A detail clicked in his memory the moment his eyes fell on Flash, still groaning in pain. Ordinary electricity couldn't harm Flash. But Speedster lightning could.
Suddenly, a yellow blur flickered around the room, moving too fast to follow, and the next thing anyone saw was Batman — still dazed from the initial shock — being struck so hard he was thrown against a wall and knocked out cold.
The yellow blur's next target was Green Arrow, hitting him with a brutal uppercut to the chin that left him unconscious in an instant.
Then Black Canary — a ruthless kick to the stomach knocked the air out of her lungs and sent her into darkness, all in the blink of an eye.
Next was Spider-Man. Thanks to his spider-sense, Peter had managed to track the entire ambush, his perception sharpening to the limit, adapting to the danger.
The problem was, even if he could see the incoming punch — moving faster than sound — his body simply wasn't fast enough to dodge a Speedster attack.
Fortunately, Flash had recovered just as quickly, and in a split second, he tackled the other Speedster, sending him flying backward, standing between Peter and the attacker.
Peter immediately retreated toward the three unconscious heroes, his senses on high alert.
He noticed Wonder Woman regaining consciousness, and Shazam too.
Looking around, Peter finally realized where they were — a huge, steel-walled chamber.
Peter's mind raced. The heroes from the other world had vanished the moment they arrived, even though they were the ones guiding the portal.
And no matter how reinforced the room was, it wouldn't be enough to contain heavy-hitters like Wonder Woman and Shazam.
"What's going on? Where are the others?" Diana asked as she fully came to her senses, noticing the missing heroes and her unconscious friends. Her sharp gaze locked onto Peter, who was kneeling near Batman, Black Canary, and Green Arrow.
"I don't know. But one thing I'm sure of — we've just been outplayed, by our own team if you want to call it that," Peter replied with dry sarcasm.
"Really? Joking at a time like this?" Diana shot him a sharp glare.
Peter just shrugged.
Suddenly, slow clapping echoed through the room, followed by footsteps approaching, and a young but cocky voice rang out
"What can I say? You pack quite a punch, Flash."
Everyone turned toward the source — the same spot where the attacking Speedster had crashed.
A young man, probably in his early twenties, stood there wearing a suit similar to Flash's, but armored at the shoulders and knees. The upper half was yellow with a red lightning bolt emblazoned on his chest, while the lower half was sleek black, creating a perfectly balanced design.
His mask merged seamlessly with his suit, leaving his neck exposed. His mouth and red hair were visible.
"Does anyone know who he is?"
Shazam asked, his eyes narrowing.
All eyes turned to Barry, who was staring hard at the Speedster.
"Wally," Barry finally whispered.
The yellow-and-black Speedster smiled.
"Hey, Uncle Barry."
Before Barry could respond, Wally casually pointed upward.
Peter and the others instinctively looked — their reflexes conditioned, even as they kept their guards up.
Floating in the air, arms folded across his chest, was none other than Superman. But not the one they knew.
He wore a black suit, the silver "S" emblem gleaming on his chest, and his black cape drifting behind him in the still air.
His cold eyes scanned the conscious members of the team, finally landing on Batman's unconscious body.
A faint, icy smile crept onto his face.
"Looks like your plan worked. Neutralizing the greatest threat — Batman."
Out of nowhere, another figure appeared.
Batman. Wearing his usual black suit, his cape covering most of his form.
But this wasn't their Batman. It was the alternate one.
He didn't answer Superman's comment. Instead, his gloved fingers pressed something on his utility belt — subtle, unnoticed by everyone.
Diana was about to step forward, but Peter's spider-sense shrieked in warning. His eyes darted just in time to see a sword hurling toward her head like a spear.
"Diana!" Peter shouted.
Wonder Woman reacted instantly to Peter's voice, her survival instincts kicking in. She raised her bracelets, deflecting the sword in a split-second maneuver. The blade ricocheted off her bracelets, embedding itself deep into the steel wall as if it were paper.
Diana and the others recognized the sword immediately. It was like one of hers.
They turned toward the source.
Standing there, with a smug smile, was the other-dimensional version of Wonder Woman.
"Too bad you let your guard down. If it weren't for Spider, you'd be dead. A true warrior never lets their guard down." Her voice was sharp, laced with mockery.
"And a true warrior never parts with their weapon," Diana shot back, her eyes narrowing, nodding toward the sword still lodged in the wall.
The alternate Diana simply raised her hand. The sword wrenched free from the steel and shot back toward her.
Peter, standing directly in its path, felt his spider-sense scream again. He flipped backward just in time, narrowly avoiding the blade.
But as he landed, his muscles suddenly felt stiff, his balance faltering, and his vision beginning to blur.
The sword landed smoothly back in the other Diana's hands as she smiled darkly.
"Impressive dodge, even now. You never fail to surprise me, Spider. Too bad our old friend didn't share the same goals."
It became clear to everyone — something was off. Something was filling the room, clouding their focus. Gas. Sleep gas.
Peter forced out a shout, warning the others.
"We need to get out — now!"
Shazam and Wonder Woman rushed the walls, trying to smash through them, while Flash attempted to speed out, carrying Green Arrow. But his strength suddenly gave out, his muscles locking up.
When Shazam tried to fly, Superman appeared above him in a blur, landing a crushing punch that sent him crashing into the steel floor, unable to move.
The same happened to Diana, pinned down by her alternate self.
Peter tried to resist, fighting against the growing weight in his limbs, but he too couldn't hold on. One by one, they all slipped into unconsciousness.
