After Yun Meili left, silence settled between them — heavy and unspoken.
The ward was quiet, save for the soft hums of the machine.
Their gaze locked onto each other—the first of many gazes to come.
Unable to take the intensity of his stare, Yun Li cleared her throat and played with the tip of her hair.
"Do you have something to say? Why do you keep staring at me that way?"
He Yuchen snapped out of his thoughts, and smiled softly.
"I was just thinking... thinking about dealing with the person who tried to hurt you under my watch." He replied simply.
Yun Li coughed awkwardly, her eyes landing on everything except his face.
Her pulse skipped. The word 'hurt' echoed in her mind, sharper than she expected.
He Yuchen chuckled. They had only known each other for a few weeks, but he loved seeing her flustered expression.
Just when the air between them began to soften, his phone rang, slicing through the moment.
