For a moment, Selene couldn't breathe. Her chest heaved as she stared at him, vision stinging with hot tears she refused to shed. Her nails dug into her palms.
Although she was scared, she didn't want to back down.
Not today.
She was terrified—terrified by how he hadn't even flinched before hurling that paperweight in her direction. Terrified by the lack of hesitation or even the faintest flicker of concern in his gaze when he treated her that way.
And yet, stubbornly, she refused to believe he would harm her.
"W-Why should I watch my words, Aiden?" she asked, her voice trembling as though she was not ready to accept that he would willingly treat her this way. "Why should I watch my words when she never watched her actions? How dare she make you do something like that?"
"Who said she asked me to do it?" His tone was still cold as ice.
