Bolcan stood at the top of the Magic Tower, watching Lis's figure disappear into the crowd below in silence.
"Bolcan, how did your conversation go with that Lis?"
A shadow appeared behind Bolcan, like an elusive red phantom.
"He said it wasn't Lord Stephens's instruction."
Bolcan spoke in a deep voice, then walked back into the room from the window, taking a sip of the fine wine in his cup.
"Really? I'm not quite convinced."
The shadow stood aside, its voice continuing.
"Without Lord Stephens's support, how could Lis possibly contend with the other schools?"
"He actually refused to cooperate with the Tower of Burning Embers, is he really that extreme?"
"Does he really think he can achieve his goal alone?"
"This Lis Kain... is not simple."
Bolcan said softly,
