In 1992, Paul Gasol was 12 years old.
He was a frail and sickly child. Although he was taller than his peers, he was weak and went to the hospital every few days.
For this reason, his parents sent him to play basketball to strengthen his body. Why basketball instead of the more popular soccer in Europe? Because before becoming doctors, his parents were professional basketball players in Spain.
At first, Paul Gasol didn't see basketball as his ultimate life goal; for him, it was just a game. His ultimate goal in life was to don a white coat like his parents and save lives.
But that year, the Barcelona Olympics changed this 12-year-old boy's aspirations.
In Barcelona, he witnessed the guys who chewed gum and wore cool basketball shoes, known as the Dream Team, casually defeat the Spanish team with a score of 122 to 81, dominating world basketball and almost playfully winning the Olympic championship.
