The night carried a strange stillness. Theo held Kimberly tightly, his heartbeat loud in her ears. But hers was faster, uneven, like something was fighting to take control from inside.
He pulled back slightly to look at her face. "Kimberly, talk to me. What happened out here?"
She shook her head, her lips trembling. "I don't know… It was like… a voice, but it wasn't mine. It sounded like it knew me better than I know myself."
"A vision?"
"No." Her voice was sharp, and she startled even herself with the tone. She glanced away. "It wasn't a vision. It felt… alive. Watching me."
Theo frowned, his mind already running through every warning the priests had given them.
He remembered the elder sorcerer saying 'her powers are tied to her emotions…' but none of them had spoken of voices.
"What did it say?" he asked softly.
Kimberly hesitated, then whispered, "That I don't know what I am yet… and that the world will."
Theo's grip on her arms tightened. "Kimberly—"
