Chapter 147 - Reinforcement

Six's plan was set into motion quickly. He ordered a battalion of B1 Battle Droids to be dispatched from Goodsprings, along with a small convoy of heavy-duty transport vehicles to haul the necessary tools, supplies, and construction materials.

The droids were programmed with a set of instructions to support the Kings in three primary areas: security, rebuilding infrastructure, and logistics.

Arriving in Freeside, the B1 droids immediately set to work. Their first priority was establishing a perimeter around the School of Impersonation, where the Kings' leadership was based, to prevent further chaos from spilling into their headquarters.

The droids formed a ring of steel and plasma, warding off any potential troublemakers who might take advantage of the situation.

The Kings were initially skeptical of the mechanical reinforcements. Many of them, already hardened by the rough streets of Freeside, were doubtful about relying on robots, but Six's reputation preceded him.

The Kings' leader, the King himself, reluctantly agreed to let them try out the droids, and quickly saw the value in them. With the B1 droids focusing on patrols and holding down defensive positions, the Kings were able to divert their own manpower to more important tasks—like restoring order, organizing their people, and managing the daily operations of Freeside's businesses.

Meanwhile, Six took a more hands-on approach, personally overseeing the reconstruction efforts. He coordinated with the Kings' leadership to ensure that essential areas, like the market district, water supply lines, and shelters, were prioritized.

The B1 droids worked tirelessly, digging through rubble, repairing buildings, and laying down new structures. They even helped clean up the streets, removing the heaps of garbage that had accumulated in the area. With their help, the community slowly began to look a little less desperate.

The supply distribution was the next major hurdle. As Rebecca had pointed out earlier, the resources from New Vegas had not trickled down to the Mojave's outskirts. Six set up a secure staging area just outside Freeside, where the Battle Droids could efficiently manage the flow of food, water, and medical supplies into the district.

The droids worked in tandem with the Kings to ensure that the most vulnerable residents were taken care of first, with proper rationing to prevent hoarding and theft.

Despite some initial reluctance, the Kings began to see the benefits of working with the B1 droids. They were efficient, unwavering, and more reliable than the gang members who usually made up the Kings' muscle.

And the most important part was that they didn't need to sleep, eat, or take breaks. Their presence allowed the Kings to focus on leadership and organizing the people without worrying about their own security or logistics.

The entire operation was smoother than Six had expected. Within days, the Kings' fortress was fortified, and the streets were safer. The citizens of Freeside, though still struggling, began to see a glimmer of hope as their homes were repaired and basic services were restored.

As the sun began to set over the wasteland, Six stood on a makeshift balcony, surveying the progress with a faint smile. The city was still a long way from prosperity, but it wasn't the wasteland of desperation it had been when he first arrived.

It was a city slowly clawing its way back from the brink, and Six knew he had just made a dent in what could become a long-term solution.

Rebecca walked up beside him, resting a hand on his shoulder.

"Okay, I'll admit it. I thought this was gonna be a bigger headache, but your tin cans are actually making a difference."

She said, looking out over the street below.

Boone, ever the pragmatist, grunted.

"Droids don't get power-hungry like people do. No one's looking to be 'top dog' when the enforcers don't take bribes or play favorites."

Raul chuckled, adjusting his hat.

"First time I've ever seen a bunch of Kings take orders from a bunch of tin men. Guess you really are shaking things up, boss."

Six nodded with a smirk.

"It's a start."

He said.

"But I've got bigger plans for this place. It's not just about defending what we have—it's about fixing what's broken. The droids stabilize things, but long-term, we need more infrastructure. I'll have my engineers draw up plans to restore the water system, get some solar panels up, maybe even clear out some of the worst slums and build proper housing."

Rebecca raised an eyebrow.

"Fixing it? You really think you can make this place something more than a wasteland? After everything that's happened here?"

Six turned to her, a confident glint in his eye.

"I didn't come here just to help the Kings. I came because Freeside—and the whole Mojave—deserve better than just scraping by. With the resources we've got, and the connections we've made, we can do more than just survive. We can build something that actually lasts."

Rebecca smiled, her skepticism melting into a look of admiration.

"I guess it's a good thing you're on our side then," she said.

Six chuckled, then looked back to the horizon, already plotting his next move.

"I didn't come all this way just to sit back and watch the world burn. I've got work to do."

Boone glanced at the people in the streets, their exhausted faces finally showing glimmers of relief.

"You're making Goodsprings the center of the Mojave, whether you meant to or not. If we do this right, Freeside won't just survive—it'll thrive."

With that, he turned back toward Freeside, where he would meet with the Kings once again to begin discussing the next steps in turning Freeside into something more than just a haven for the desperate. This was only the beginning.
