Chapter 9 - Chapter Eight: Hide and seek (숨바꼭질)

Kim Min-ho POV (Point Of View)

I looked at the phone on my table, "Isn't she going to call? Oh, that's right, I'm with her phone." I shook my head, and at that moment, her phone buzzed with a call.

It read Grandma, What am I going to do?" I stared at her phone as it rang, then it stopped, then it rang again. "I can't pick this up." I sighed. It stopped again, then immediately a message entered.

Grandma:

1031

I stared at the message in confusion, "What does this mean? Oh, her grandma must want her to do something." I thought for a while, "Wait, is this the password?" I said to myself before typing the digits, and surprisingly, the phone unlocked.

Grandma:

You're with my phone, right?

Me:

I'm sorry, but this isn't Jiseo chatting. The thing is that I'm with her phone.

Grandma:

Hey idiot, I'm Jiseo. I left my phone with you.

Me:

Oh.

Grandma:

Meet me at the supermarket next to my grandma's restaurant.

Me:

Why should I?

Grandma:

Because I need my phone.

Me:

I thought you said you don't need it.

Grandma:

Don't play with me.

Me:

I don't want to.

Grandma:

Then I'll find you.

Then she went offline. "There's no way she'll find me." I scoffed. I threw her phone on the bed and went downstairs and saw my mom drinking wine while watching focusing on TV.

"Mom, where's Dad?" She turned to me and shrugged, "I don't know. He might be in his study." I nodded and left to check the study, and as my mom predicted, he was there.

Even though the door was open, I had to knock because he was on a phone call, and he hates being interrupted. He looked at me, still listening to the other person on the line. A minute later, he ended the call and raised a brow.

"How's Min Hyun doing?" That's not actually what I wanted to ask him, but I need to know about my older brother's well-being. My dad sighed, "Why did you ask me that?" 'Is this man serious?' I said inwardly.

"Because it's been 4 years and I haven't seen him ever since he went to the States. Isn't he coming back home?" I said, trying so hard not to yell at my dad in annoyance.

"You're being so childish right now. He is getting his money and making our company big in the States, so why should he come back? Because his baby brother misses him so much?" He yelled.

I stayed quiet before nodding. I was about to leave when I remembered what I came here to tell him: "I don't want to get married to Arin anymore." My sentence made my dad turn to me in shock. "What did you just say?"

"I said I don't want to get married to Arin anymore," I repeated even I knew damn well that he heard me well. He walked over to me and I got prepared for the slap that landed on my cheek.

It was so loud that my mom rushed into the study room and gasped when she saw my red cheeks. I turned to my dad with a calm expression on my face, like I wasn't fazed by the slap, "You can slap me again if you want, but I have made my decision."

"Do you realize that if you call off your marriage with her, our business won't expand! Both companies came together to get their children together, and we even started our agreement after Arin was born. I even made sure you attended her first birthday, and we made sure you two became close during your toddler years, and you want all our hard work to go down the drain?!" He yelled.

"First of all, father, it's not our business but yours, only yours. I can't believe that you are using me as some kind of instrument for your financial growth. And again, wasn't your agreement with Arin's dad? Her mom divorced him, so your little agreement is over." I said calmly, but you could hear the anger in my words.

"Yes, but right now, she will be getting married to Beomjun next month." He said, trying to convince me. "I'm nothing but an object to you. I have made up my mind, I'm not going to marry Arin anymore." I shook my head and was about to walk out of the study when he spoke up.

"I'll tell your brother to come back to Korea. I'll tell your brother to come back to Korea only if you drop this idea you have about calling off your marriage with Arin." He bargained.

"Our sons aren't objects you can just use for your financial benefits, Soo hyun!" My mom yelled. "So, son, do you want to see your brother? Or you still want to be stubborn?" My dad asked, ignoring my mom.

I didn't answer him, I just left his study and went out of the house in anger, and walked around the garden. I felt like screaming my lungs out, so I did in anger. I huffed, "I want to see Min Hyun, but I don't want to get married to Arin." I sighed and kicked a pebble, and put my hands in my sweatpants pockets.

Lee Jiseo POV (Point of View)

I checked the map on my grandma's phone again, "Am I in the right place? This is where Hari described, so it must be the place. But how can I get in? Are there guards here? No, they are stupidly rich; they can't have guards. Lasers. Yeah, probably lasers, I mean that makes sense." I said to myself, staring at his house.

"Or wait," I gasped, "What if they have guard dogs instead?" I moved away from the house.

************1 hour later************

"Is he mad?" I looked at my grandma, who was talking to her favorite customer, Taemin. "Who?" Taemin asked, raising a brow.

"None of your business." I said, glaring at him sharply before focusing back on my grandma, "He doesn't want to meet up."

"It's already late, can't you collect it at school tomorrow?" My grandma said. "Who's the guy?" Taemin asked again, but I glared at him, "Mind your business, and we closed 2 hours ago, go home!" I pointed to the door.

"Jiseo! He's just trying to help." My grandma glared at me and gave Taemin a pity look. "I don't want his help." I glared at Taemin.

He smirked at me, "Stop glaring, Angry Bird." I gasped in shock and looked at my grandma, hoping she would tell him off, but instead she nodded, agreeing with him.

I gasped in shock before I got up from the seat, "Okay bye bye now." I said with a huff.

"Just tell me who the guy is." Before I could say no again, my grandma spoke up, "Jiseo left her phone with the young man who brought her here, but don't worry..." "Yeah, don't worry. Now leave." I said, interrupting my grandma.

"Okay, I'm leaving. It's already late, so I need to get home. Bye, grandma." He hugged my grandma for a minute before he let her go and gave her a smile, then walked out of the restaurant.

"Bye, grandma. Can I take your phone with me? When I've gotten it, I'll bring it to you." "No need. Just give me tomorrow, I don't need it." My grandma shook her head.

"Really? Okay, thank you, love you, bye." I rushed out before limping out of the restaurant. "Be careful!" My grandma yelled. I dialed Hari's number, which was very weird for me to remember.

***********Present**********

I knocked on the house gate. "Wait, what if no one answers?" I looked up at the walls again, "What if I climb...?" I trailed off, realizing how my idea sounded stupid. I thought of what I should do, but my thoughts were interrupted when I heard the sound of the gate opening.

I quickly hid. Min-ho stepped out and let out a sigh. I came out of my hiding spot and tapped his shoulder from behind, which made him flinch a little. He turned to look at me. "What are you doing here?"

"I told you that I'll find you, so why are you surprised? You thought I was bluffing?" I folded my arms, giving him a raised brow.

"How did you find me?" He looked around the area before looking back at me. "How do reporters find you?" I didn't want to tell him that Hari told me his address.

"Your phone is inside. Wait here while I go get it." He was about to enter inside but I blocked his way. He raised a brow at my action, "I want to come with you." I said. "No." Then he moved me out of his way and went inside, locking the gate after him.

I waited for him for 10 minutes before my patience ran out. "What's taking him so long?" I whined. I looked up at the wall again, and this time, I was determined to climb it.

I looked around for stones that could help, but unfortunately, they couldn't support my weight. I looked around for something else that I could use, and luckily, I saw a ladder next to a building.

I sneakily took it and rushed to the wall, "Don't mind me, I just want to borrow your ladder." I said out loud like I was talking to the owner. I placed it carefully, hoping that I had placed it well.

I climbed the ladder, ignoring the pain coming from my ankle. Successfully, I got over the wall and prepared for the impact I was going to face. I jumped down and fell into a rose bush.

I groaned in pain, but still I stood up and walked out of the bushes. My ankle ached in pain. I winced in pain, trying to stay as quiet as possible. I limped to the big mansion. "Wow, so he is living in a place like this, but he doesn't have any guards, lasers. That's a shame."

I stopped when I saw a woman in the house, and I limped as fast as possible to a rose bush and hid there. I looked over the plant and saw that she was talking to Min-ho. My mouth opened in shock.

"Is this boy for real? I want to go home, and he is busy chit-chatting." Then at that moment, someone tapped my shoulder and I froze like a deer in the headlights. Closing my eyes, I turned slowly and opened them again to see Taemin staring at me in amusement.

"What the heck are you doing?" He said with a grin. I didn't say anything, I just stared at him in shock and slowly stood up, watching him as his eyes followed me. "What are you doing here?" That wasn't from him but from a voice behind me.

I turned to the owner of the voice, and Min-ho came into view. "How did you even get in here?" He asked us both.

"The same way the new girl got in here," Taemin answered. I turned to him in shock. Taemin gestured for me to speak with a tilt of his head. I turned back to Min-ho, who was waiting for me to speak up.

"I used a ladder to get in," I said, averting his gaze, but I could still feel his gaze on me. "You used what?" He asked in shock. "A ladder. But don't get mad at me, you don't even have any security measures, so take me breaking in as a warning." I said in my defense.

"We have security but not guards, just electric wires in the walls. I switched it off when I left you outside because I thought you might touch the wall." I opened my mouth in shock, 'What if he didn't come out and I climbed the wall?'

"So, what are you doing here, Taemin?" Min-ho said to Taemin, raising a questioning brow at him. "Her grandmother told me to follow the new girl here." I turned to him sharply, "I've told you to stop calling me that!"

"What's going on out here?" A woman said. We all looked in the direction of the voice, and I saw my principal walking toward us. "This is the new girl from school. Her phone is with me, so she came here to take it." Min-ho explained.

I bowed quickly, "You are the new student who got in by..." "I've to give her her phone now so she'll go home," Min-ho said, cutting her off before she could mention anything about my scholarship. Even if she was speaking in English, I'm not sure if Taemin would understand or not.

"Why is her phone with you?" "I dropped it in his car and forgot to take it," I explained.

She looked at Taemin, finally noticing his presence, "And what are you doing here?" Taemin behind him before facing her, "Who? Me?" He said, pointing to himself. We all looked at him like he was dumb. No, he IS dumb.

"Uh, her grandma said I should come along with Ji seo." He said with a cheeky smile that made me irritated by just looking at it. "That's nice of you." She replied proudly like he solved world hunger or something.

"Here's your phone. Now, please leave and take Taemin with you." Min ho said handing me my phone.
