At the police station, Lin Yan saw Xiang Qingyuan.
"Someone was beaten up and left your number, saying they're an old acquaintance! So we're notifying you."
Lin Yan hadn't changed her phone number for years and wondered if she should thank Xiang Qingyuan for still remembering her number, calling her out late at night.
"What do we need to do?" Lu Chenyuan asked in Cantonese while communicating with the police.
"Take him away," the police, used to these situations, said. Being beaten like this was likely because of high-interest debt and not repaying the borrowings.
Near the casino, such cases of debt dispute occur almost daily.
Lin Yan was already swearing inwardly.
She refused, saying, "I'm not familiar with that man and won't take him away. You can ask for his family's contact. We don't even qualify as friends."
