Suddenly Liam felt a chill, his hair stood on end as he shifted his body sideways. A black tentacle as thick an elephant leg brushed past his cheek. Liam didn't need to think who it belonged to as he turned to another direction. Another tentacle shot out, more than ten tentacles consecutively shot out and chased after him. The black tentacles were extremely sharp and had terrifying dissolving properties, it destroyed everything in its path. For Liam, it was a moment of life and death situation.
First, he fought with Mu Yun when she was possessed and got injured, his energy was drained severely. The lingering residual energy inside his wounds didn't let him heal at all. It kept getting worse. Next, he was ambushed before getting to chance to recuperate and now he was being chased by a heavenly king level abomination.
Mu Yun woke up and saw herself being carried by a man. It was a young man with deep blue eyes, his black robe was stained with blood. His face was ashen and there was blood at the corner of his lips. She vividly remembered what had happened. This young man saved her from the monstrosity. From the corner of her eyes, she glanced back and saw a thirty meter tall black giant chasing after them. It had countless black spikes on its back, spiralling upward, exuding dark glows. Its limbs constantly changed various shapes, emitting metal clanks. Her gaze met the monster's vertical eyes and then, she felt a pull on her soul.
She was horrified to find that her soul lost control of her body and it was being pulled out by something.
Liam's eyes sharpened. He fished out a rusty, broken pearl and pressed it against her forehead. Her soul slammed back into place.
"Don't look at it…." Liam's raspy voice sounded.
Mu Yun nodded hurriedly, didn't dare to look back anymore.
Suddenly a tentacle pierced through his shoulder faster than lightning. It created a fist size gap in his chest. Liam's figure tumbled immediately. He almost fell on the ground.
[Quickly, move to the north!] The system's urgent voice sounded.
Liam didn't hesitate and quickly moved, though his speed was slowed down greatly.
The abomination was only fifty steps away from him.
"…I can't escape…" Liam sighed.
"You should escape by yourself…" Mu Yun suddenly said,
"I will distract it so you can escape, take it as a repayment for saving me." Her eyes were determined.
Liam didn't even bother to reply, ignoring her completely. Mu Yun felt embarrassed.
On a ridge ahead, a small group of cultivators spotted him. They exchanged glances, puzzled by his bloodstained state.
They looked at each other and were curious.
"Fellow Daoist! Do you need help?" one called out.
"Run…." Liam's voice reverberated in their ears.
The group of cultivator frowned. A bad premonition crept in their hearts.
Before they could speak again, a roar sounded, sending a shockwave through the mountainside. The ground trembled.
The group frowned and looked at the source of the sound. The ground shook as a thirty meter tall black monstrosity jumped out, with one step, the large mountain under its feet crumbled to dust. A tentacle shot out, cleaving another mountain in half.
This scene caused the group of cultivator to change their expression.
The group quickly made up their minds to run away. The strongest among them was a late stage Heavenly King, even he didn't dare to think about fighting the monster.
The abomination had already locked on to the group of cultivators and gave chase.
One cultivator was too slow; a tentacle drilled into his forehead, turning his body and eyes pitch black. In moments, he swelled into a ten meter abomination and joined the hunt.
Such scene horrified the group of cultivator as they ran even faster. They wished they had ten more legs.
The heavenly king among them crushed a secret talisman, escaping with his companions.
Liam saw this scene and sighed but suddenly he frowned. The heavenly king level abomination actually chose to go to their direction.
It lessened the pressure on him significantly. He pitied the group of cultivator. They wanted to help him but suffered such disaster.
Behind, Liam saw the physic foundation realm abomination catching up to him with great momentum.
[Don't even think about fighting, you are no match for it. Just run toward the north. Three kilometres away, there's a dao portal, you can escape from there.] The system said.
Not long after, Liam spotted two groups of cultivators locked in a fierce battle. When they saw Liam approaching from a distance, they stopped fighting abruptly and stared at him warily.
"Brat, don't come any closer, or else!" one of them barked. His words were followed by a sudden palm seal.
Liam frowned, He hadn't planned on getting involved, yet this fool had struck first. With a cold sneer, he flicked his wrist, deflecting the strike. Then, instead of retreating, his figure blurred, moving straight toward them.
"Courting death!" the cultivators roared in unison.
Few of them lunged forward, sending out attacks one after another. Liam skilfully manoeuvred his body, evading their deadly strikes.
"Shameless brat! Which sect are you from?" Some of them cursed angrily.
Someone's cursing was stopped abruptly. A black tentacle burst through the back of his skull, emerging from his forehead. His eyes went lifeless, his skin blackened, and in the span of a heartbeat he was warped into another abomination.
"What!!"
The group were appalled!
Liam didn't glance back. His speed surged as he shot past them, leaving their screams echoing behind. One after another, the sound of tearing flesh and desperate cries filled the air.
With the chaos behind him, Liam finally gained a sliver of breathing room. The monster's roars grew distant. He turned his neck and saw it wasn't chasing him anymore. Even so, he didn't stop, heading straight toward the dao portal.
"Can you walk?" Liam asked Mu Yun. His eyes were bloodshot.
She nodded her head.
Liam let her down and leaned his body slightly against a tree. His breathing was ragged. Mu Yun knelt beside him, her trembling hands moved quickly to cover his wounds. Her eyes were watery, glistening with tears.
"Thank you." She sobbed.
Liam chuckled weakly, waving a hand as if brushing it away. "Don't cry… you'll make me look bad."
