Chapter 942 - When The Moon Bit Back

Teeth day.

Kade didn't call them that. He called them SBP units—short-barrel projectors—but everyone up here had started saying teeth and the map didn't argue.

"Eight to start," he said. "Two in Imbrium, two in Procellarum, two in Crisium, two tucked near the highlands. Low profile. Cold when idle. No glow. If they ever sing, they sing for a second and then become rocks again."

"Trigger?" Rose asked.

"Only the lattice," Kade said. "Human hands don't wake them. Friendly ghosts don't wake them. Grit on the belt in the wrong shape wakes them."

Reika cracked her neck. "And then?"

"Then they draw a line," Kade said.

We set the first pit at the edge of Imbrium. I cut the ring; Rachel laid a thin Purelight wash that would make residue slip; Erebus lowered the tooth and closed its ribbed shroud. It looked like a forgotten stone with an uninteresting shadow. Good.
