Everything Clara confessed was the opposite of what Inspector Jacob had expected.
Even though what she had done was wrong, he could sense her broken mental state.
He could only look at her helplessly for a moment. Then, he gently made her realize how her immature decisions had cost an entire family irreparable losses.
Later, he explained briefly what was happening at the station and reminded her to always stay safe.
The cases were wandering in many directions, and understanding the real course of the story demanded immense effort from them.
And then came the climax—
In the middle of the forest, the countless corpses that were unearthed all whispered the same tale—
the tale that was tied to the murder of Clara's parents.
Years of bloodshed buried in secrecy were now coming together in the police's hands as evidence.
But the killer lurking in the shadows was the one who had turned all their lives into nightmares.
Clara had endured so much—losing her parents at a young age, and later, everyone who stood by her, leaving her utterly alone.
Jacob, Maria's husband, was her only comfort and trust.
But when he fell to the ground, drenched in blood from the enemy's attack, Clara's heart shattered.
"Now who do I have left…?" she cried in despair.
And that's when the truth revealed itself.
Among the dead, the police found a locket. Inside was an old photograph.
When the Inspector showed it to Clara, her heart trembled.
In the photo, alongside her parents, stood another man.
That face—her own uncle, Thomas.
"What? Was it you… behind everything?" Clara gasped.
A slow clap echoed through the darkness.
"Well done, Clara… finally, you've figured it out."
Thomas stepped out from the shadows, a sly smile on his lips.
"Your parents were obstacles in my path.
Their business, their power—it was mine to take.
But they refused to yield. And so…" he snapped his fingers.
"My men silenced them."
Clara's body shivered uncontrollably.
"All this time… I thought you were my protector.
But you were the murderer!"
He was the only family who visited her often, the one who stood by her after she was adopted by the former inspector.
The one she had trusted the most… Thomas.
Thomas took a step forward—
But then, a loud voice burst out from behind—
"STOP!"
It was Jacob.
Though drenched in blood, clinging to life, he stood with his gun raised.
"You won't win, Thomas."
As Thomas lunged forward with a knife, Inspector Jacob pulled the trigger.
The gunshot tore through the silence of the forest.
The bullet pierced the air, and Thomas collapsed to the ground—
his eyes filled with shock and rage.
Clara rushed to Jacob's side, resting her head against his chest.
"We won… My parents finally got justice."
Her tears mingled with his blood.
The forest fell silent again—
but within that silence, the truth echoed:
The killer who had hidden in the shadows had finally surrendered to the light.
And by Jacob's side, where even his own shadow had begun to fade,
Clara's presence stood as the truth unveiled itself at last…
