Chapter 41 - 41 Theories

Albus Dumbledor sat at the head office with just the portraits of past headmasters and Fawks for company. He looked at the phoenix who looked quite weary. He was getting quite old, he should catch fire any day now. Dumbledor always marvelled at the creature. Phoenix, their healing powers, their rebirth, strength. Truly magical creatures.

Knock knock

"Come in" Dumbledor waved his hand, making the mess of parchment and writing utensils neatly arranged themselves as he prepared to welcome his guest. He made sure to arrange a bowl of acid pops just in case.

"Albus." McGonagall walked in briskly. In her hands were a few scrolls of parchment, each filled with scribbles that did not match the head of the Gryffindor house.

"Minerva, what brings you here at this time of the night?"

"This" she extended the parchments making Dumbledor raise an eyebrow.

Taking the parchment into his hands, he went through the topics briskly. For some time, there was only the sound of parchment unfurling in the room.

"Quite a bright mind you've met here Minerva." Albus replied after some time. McGonagall hesitated for a moment, before asking.

"Do you think this is correct, Albus? The child who gave this to me, he was able to do wandless magic even though he was only a student in the second year."

"A second year using wandless magic? My word how the times have changed." Dumbledor exclaimed with fascination, softly while his eyes behind the half moon glasses glimmered in excitement.

McGonagall didn't let go of the matter though." Well? Do you think this theory could be correct?"

Dumbledor didn't reply immediately, instead chasing to mull over the answer. "The idea has merit." He replied finally. "There are many parts, especially about the nodes that makes sense when looking at them practically. But, there's no way to prove it, so the answer remains uncertain."

"What should i do with it then?"

Dumbledor thought for a moment. There weren't many wizards who studied the origin of magic. Most were studying alchemy, runes, potions or rituals. Some chose legends while some tested new spells. But those who delved into the origin of magic were only a handful.

"Leave it with me." Dumbledor finally replied taking the parchment to his own hands. Since he had no one available, he would have to test this himself.

McGonagall left leaving Dumbledor alone once more. And he began reading the theory. There were some flaws. But they were covered through other theorems within the parchment. By the time he finished the paper thoroughly, it was way past mid night. Taking a look outside, a chuckle left Dumbledor's mouth. It's been a long time since something managed to take his interest so deeply. Last time it was Flamel and his research on dragon blood.

Dumbledor calmed himself down before taking the report once more and took a quill to his other arm. He was going to spend some nights without sleep. But there are somethings that were worth losing some shut eye. And origin of magic was most definitely worth it
