Shen Li was startled awake by a thunderous sound, like rumbling thunder or perhaps the boom of cannon fire.
She pressed the bedside lamp, but no light appeared; the room was pitch black, devoid of any brightness.
There was no sound, no light, and the silence in the room was terrifying.
"A power outage?"
A trace of confusion surfaced in Shen Li's mind.
During dinner, a massive storm had overturned the dining table.
Since it was a natural phenomenon, she hadn't paid much attention to it.

"Is anyone there?" Shen Li asked softly.
There was no response.
She quickly got out of bed, and her excessively swift movements made her feel dizzy.
