The FA's principle is supposedly to take care of the European competition teams, but in reality, they don't do much of that.
After all, the opponents are innocent and the schedule surely needs to accommodate them a bit; as long as the European teams aren't exhausted to death, they continue to play.
That's why there are so many times with two matches a week, sometimes even three.
