The two men had always feared Joe, and now they were caught fooling around with Mary at just the wrong time, both their hearts filled with shock and fear.
They knew Joe's methods well; although he always wore a constant smile, they had personally witnessed him deal with a traitor once.
After seeing that scene, although they were killers without a second thought, the image kept them awake at night for several days.
Since that incident, they no longer underestimated Joe, and because of his ways, whenever they saw him, they couldn't help but remember their comrade struggling and wailing on the ground that day.
