Chapter 41 - Finished

Jasper and Alice fled through the woods with Paul right behind.

"We need to reach the ocean," said Jasper.

"We can kill one wolf," argued Alice, looking back.

"I doubt he'll remain alone for long," said Jasper, working his gift to keep her in check.

"He's catching up," said Alice.

"The reservation," said Jasper, changing directions.

(No, no, no, can anyone hear me, they're heading for the reserve, and I might not be able to stop them both!) Shouted Paul, pushing his legs to the limits.

(Don't worry, I've already predicted this,) said Dean, having long since maneuvered to put himself between them and the reserve should they turn.

(We're right here waiting,) Leah confirmed.

Relieved, Paul concentrated on catching the pixie.

(If you get the chance, take out the gifted first, it would be bad if his gift did something devastating to our people, we don't know his range,) reminded Dean much to Paul's annoyance with himself more than anything, having not thought of it.

(Right, gifted first,) muttered Paul, turning his attention to the male.

Near the ravine, he caught up.

Jasper, having no choice, spun around mid-sprint to confront him, a hand knocking Paul's nose off course, saving him from a deadly bite as he slid backward, carried by the momentum.

Alice kicked off a nearby tree and slammed into Paul from the side, sending him crashing into another tree.

"Let's go," said Jasper, getting ready to run again, only for a Giant golden wolf and a slightly smaller light gray wolf to jump the ravine from the other side and head straight for them.

Feeling Alice's fear and nervous energy spike, Jasper gave her a comforting glance as he took it from her and replaced it with courage and excitement, adjusting as needed so she was clear-headed enough to make rational decisions.

"Three wolves, it may not be easy, but we can do this," said Jasper, "They only have one main attack that we have to watch out for, avoid the bite, and we win. Make sure to stay close and use their size against them."

"Right," said Alice, looking over at Paul, who was already charging at them.

Paul snorted, (You hear this shit?)

(Yeah, let's prove him wrong, Leah, we'll do it just like we did with the redhead, Paul, you can have the pixie,) said Dean.

Facing the two, Jasper didn't even see it coming as he began to dodge the Golden wolf, only to be grabbed by a hand and thrown to the ground, and then set upon by the other. It was over even before it began.

In the middle of dodging Paul's multiple attacks, Alice was caught unaware as all her fear, doubt, and anxiety hit her all at once, dropping her to her knees and screaming until her head was torn from her shoulders.

(I feel... disappointed,) said Paul after a moment.

(That's good. We kept the reservation safe and suffered no losses,) said Leah.

(I guess,) said Paul.

(This is only the beginning. There will be plenty more fights to come. We'll start sweeping the entire area outwards now, killing all we find, making sure none can get anywhere close to our loved ones, or even step foot in our state,) said Dean.

(We should get back to the others and make sure they're all doing okay,) said Leah, thinking of Seth.

(You go ahead, I'll clean up here and then join you,) said Dean, licking his chops.

On their way back, Paul spots Jake coming at them, (Jake?). He could have sworn the rusty-brown wolf gave them a dirty look as he passed in a hurry, not slowing down.

(What's he up to?) questioned Leah, looking back.

Bella wasn't far behind, screaming after him, "JAKE! DON'T!"

(What's that about?) asked Paul.

(Nothing good,) said Leah, turning right back around and giving chase.

In the middle of swallowing his meal, Dean turned his head to see who was coming and found himself set upon by Jake.

(I'll Kill You!) shouted Jake angrily, teeth bared, ramming into Dean with all his might, biting.

Going with the flow, Dean rolled and kicked him off, (Explain yourself now!) he ordered. Catching a whiff of a new vamp, he turned to see Bella and had a pretty good idea of what was going on.

"Jake, stop this, you don't want to do this," said Bella as the other two wolves arrived.

Feeling confident at drawing first blood, Jake didn't hesitate to answer, ignoring her, (Is it true, did you fuck Bella?)

Leah frowns, (Did Bella tell you that?)

(She didn't need to, Edward was more than willing to share,) Jake spat.

Dean grinned, (And your sisters.)

(You Bastard!) Jake attacked.

Leah looked over at Paul in case he thought about helping Jake, but he didn't seem surprised; he and Rachel must have a more honest relationship than she previously thought.

(You knew?) asked Leah.

(Rachel told me everything,) Paul confirmed.

(And you don't have a problem with it?) questioned Leah.

(I wouldn't say that, but it's not my place to judge, it was way before my time, and I'm not going to hold it against her, especially with my past,) said Paul.

Leah snorted, (Does she know about us being wolves?)

(...She will soon,) said Paul, realizing he needed to tell her.

"Are you guys not going to help stop this?" Bella asked the other two.

(Turn and tell her it's not our place, that this is basically a challenge for leadership now,) said Leah, knowing if she were to turn and show off her nude form, it would drive Dean mad with enough fury to kill Jake, and possibly Paul.

(It wouldn't be much of a challenge if Dean stopped playing with him,) said Paul.

Leah agreed, (I think for Dean, this is more of a long-drawn-out punishment finally about to get served.)

.

Dean was treating Jake more like an unruly pup than a real opponent. Each time Jake came at him, Dean countered his attacks by biting him hard enough to prevent any retaliation and throwing him away with a shake of his head. He repeated the process a humiliating number of times before Jake changed tactics.

Anger rising, Jake rushed at him again, but this time went for a tackle. Feinting left, he drove his right shoulder into Dean, hitting him back a couple of steps, not nearly enough to do anything.

It was becoming clear how outmatched he truly was, and it only made him angrier. Foaming at the mouth, Jake continued to charge hopelessly.

Leah sneered, (Isn't this enough? Give up already, you'll never be Dean's match, and it's not like Bella's was yours to take. If you weren't so weak and pathetic, maybe she wouldn't have chosen us.)

Jake's head whips around so fast, you'd think it would have fallen off if it weren't attached. With her words reverberating in his head, he attacked, forgetting about Dean.

(You Dare!) growled Dean, catching him by the scruff of his neck mid-leap towards Leah, throwing him angrily away with a tearing of flesh from his jaws as Jake landed hard.

Getting right on top of him before he could react, Dean tore the limbs from his body, leaving him a bloody, broken mess on the forest floor.

It all happened so fast. Bella stood open-mouthed, shocked, when it was all over, while Leah snorted in contempt at the fool, and Paul wondered what he was going to tell Rachel about this.
