"That was intense," Kai said, staring into his coffee mug like it might contain answers to questions he hadn't known to ask.
"That was necessary," Marcus corrected, though his hands were trembling slightly around his own cup.
"I wanted to phase through the floor myself," Callum admitted. "Hearing him call himself broken..."
"Broke something in me," Kai finished. "Made me want to track down Mrs. Chen and have a very pointed conversation about word choice."
"Get in line," Samantha said darkly. "I'm scheduling that PTA meeting first thing tomorrow."
Marcus set down his coffee with careful precision. "I've spent a thousand years mastering knowledge. But tonight I realized I know nothing about being a father. Everything I said came from pure instinct."
"Good instinct," Kai said firmly.
"Was it though? What if I said the wrong thing? What if I made it worse?"
