Chapter 42 - CHAPTER 42 THE SLAUGHTER CITY

Douluo Continent

Northern part of the Continent

On the border of the Heaven Dao Empire and the Far North

Due to the cold from the Far North and the friction of war, the only village there had long been abandoned by its inhabitants. It had now become a dwelling place for robbers and thieves.

Within the village, which was filled with broken and abandoned houses, stood a two-story tavern. The noise emanating from within suggested that business was blooming. This tavern was Huang Yong's destination.

As soon as Huang Yong entered the tavern, his face was assaulted by air thick with the reek of blood, alcohol, and who-knows-what else.

His arrival drew a flicker of attention from the patrons, but they quickly returned to their own affairs.

Finding an empty table, Huang Yong sat and beckoned a waiter over.

"What would you like to have, sir?" the waiter asked, rubbing his hands together, his eyes glinting with greed.

"Bring me a glass of Bloody Mary."

The moment Huang Yong ordered the Bloody Mary, the entire tavern fell silent.

"Haha, this brat dares to ask for Bloody Mary? Hey brat, have your permanent teeth grown out yet?" someone sneered.

"Haha, do you think you're strong just because you're wearing some expensive armor? Go back under the protection of your elders!"

Laughter erupted throughout the tavern, and everyone began taunting and mocking Huang Yong. The waiter stood by with a sly smile.

"Brothers, why discuss so much? Just kill this brat! His armor will sell for a good price; we've hit a jackpot!"

As soon as the suggestion to attack was made, everyone grabbed their weapons and charged.

"Hah, if everyone has a death wish, then what can I do other than granting their wishes? Let the blood of all of you prepare my heart for all the killing coming next!" Huang Yong rose and met their attack.

About thirty breaths later,

"Sir, please don't kill us! We're not the ones who attacked you!" Two waiters emerged from behind the counter, their faces pale with terror. The scene before them was horrifying: only one man stood in the tavern, the rest of the space littered with broken body parts and headless corpses.

"Step aside." Huang Yong kicked the counter the waiters had been hiding behind. Beneath it, a tunnel glowed an ominous red.

Huang Yong jumped into the tunnel and entered a strange world.

Here, Huang Yong's perception became very poor, and the surroundings were cloaked in extreme darkness. He carefully felt his way, realizing he was in a passage. A path lay ahead, but he couldn't discern its end.

Ignoring the uncertainty, Huang Yong walked directly along the road until a light appeared before him, leading him into a special, new world.

This world seemed utterly different from the Douluo Continent. It was entirely dark, devoid of natural light. A blood-colored moon hung in the sky, its eerie crimson glow illuminating the world, but with such weak intensity that everything remained blurry. The air held no breath of life, filled instead with a dead silence, a cold, piercing aura, like a true hell.

Huang Yong tried to activate his soul rings, but some kind of restriction prevented their function.

"The Slaughter City is indeed a place left behind by the gods; no other power should be able to block the functioning of soul rings but divine power."

"HOST, HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN MY POWER? I CAN RESTRICT ALL THE POWER FLOW IN YOUR BODY!"

"Well, System, how can we compare your powers to some lowlifes like Douluo World gods?"

Immediately afterward, a team of knights appeared before Huang Yong's eyes – a total of 101 people. One, clearly their captain, was distinctly different from the others. The knights all rode black horses, clad in black armor, their weapons equally dark.

The leading knight rode swiftly, stopping directly in front of Huang Yong. "Outsider, welcome to the Killing Capital. If you wish to become a member, you need to pass my test."

"What test do you have?"

"Beat me."

"System, remove all the restrictions on my strength placed by you."

"ALL SEALS REMOVED."

Before the leading knight could react, Huang Yong activated his thunder element and attacked with all his strength. The knight frantically raised his weapon to resist, but the fist before him carried immense power. It instantly shattered his defense, leaving him on his knees, powerless to resist.

"Don't bother me, your strength is too weak."

Huang Yong ignored the knight, walking directly past him and heading straight for the castle in the distance.

The leading knight seemed to suddenly snap out of his fright and hastily caught up with Huang Yong. "Wait a minute."

"Do you still want to die?"

"You misunderstood. Congratulations on becoming a member of the Killing Capital. This is your identification; someone will receive you at the city gate."

The knight, still looking fearful, threw a token to Huang Yong. It bore a skull logo and the number: 6769.

"6769, what an auspicious combination of numbers, haha." (Don't blame the author, blame your dirty mind.)

Huang Yong took the token and walked towards the city gate without looking back.

When Huang Yong arrived at the city gate, it appeared entirely black, exuding a profoundly depressing aura. Above the gate, four blood-red characters spelled out "Killing Capital."

Huang Yong admired the architecture; despite its oppressive feel, the creator of this Killing Capital clearly possessed a unique aesthetic sense.

"I will paint my whole journey through the Killing Capital," Huang Yong decided before entering the city gate.

A woman with a black veil had already walked out of the city gate.

"Welcome to the Killing Capital." The woman's voice was pleasant. She approached Huang Yong and made a gesture of invitation.

Huang Yong followed the woman into the city gate.

Walking inside, Huang Yong found himself in a blue-purple world. The only light came from lamps hanging on either side of the street, casting an overall gloom, reminiscent of the hellish descriptions in novels from his past life.

The woman in black gauze, seemingly experienced in her role, explained: "I am your docent. If there's anything you don't understand, you can ask me. Within twelve hours, I will answer all your questions. Twelve hours later, this is where you live. You'll also officially be a part of the Killing Capital."

"Take me to the Hell's Killing Fields."

"Are you sure? Less than a tenth of the people who enter there make it out alive. It's also the easiest place for our Kill Capital to depopulate. Each person is only required to enter the Hell's Killing Fields once a year. As long as you can pass a battle, you can live in the Killing Capital for another year. Sir, you now have a 12-hour protection period, during which you will not be attacked by anyone. If you go to the Hell Killing Fields, the protection period will automatically be invalidated."

Huang Yong said expressionlessly: "Lead the way."

The woman in black veil seemed to understand Huang Yong's attitude and led him directly towards the center of the castle.

All sorts of people appeared along the way. Some seemed in a state of madness, stopping on the roadside to gaze at Huang Yong with a half-smile, while many more stood alone, withdrawn. However, these individuals shared a striking commonality: they were all very thin, almost skeletal. If their eyes weren't still moving, Huang Yong would have suspected them of being dead.

The woman in black veil seemed to perceive Huang Yong's doubts. "This is just the outer city of the Killing City. Only the inner city is the real Killing City. There are no rules in the inner city."

"Random killing is not allowed in the outer city. Only those warriors who survived the Hell Killing Fields are qualified to live in the inner city. Of course, you can enjoy greater pleasures there than outside, but you will also face the test of death at any time."

"Everyone who wants to live in the outer city must contribute two Bloody Marys every month. This is also the reason why the people in the outer city are in the state you just observed."

After a while, the two came to the inner city. The inner city and the outer city were indeed completely different worlds. If the outer city was merely gloomy, the inner city was a maelstrom of killings.

You could see people fighting and killing at any time on the roadside. Blood flowed freely, with bodies left squirming on the ground, their limbs chopped off and even chewed by others. This was a world of cannibalism, real cannibalism, of people eating each other raw.

All kinds of faces could be seen everywhere in the inner city, yet everyone looked unsettlingly similar. Their expressions were ferocious, eyes bloodshot as if stimulated by something, and a strong aura of murder exuded from their bodies.

Under the guidance of the girl in black gauze, Huang Yong saw a special building. It was circular, or more accurately, a non-standard cone shape, broadest at the bottom and narrowing as it rose.

At a height of almost thirty meters, it maintained a consistent diameter before extending upward to fifty meters.

Looking at the Hell Killing Fields, it was somewhat reminiscent of the Colosseum in ancient Rome. Participants fought like wild beasts, while spectators in the stands watched with excited fervor, as if observing a performance.

"How can I enter the Hell Killing Fields?"

The girl in black veil said: "The qualification to enter the Hell Killing Fields is to contribute a cup of Bloody Mary. It can be your own or someone else's. As long as someone signs up and ten people gather, a game can begin."

Huang Yong glanced at the bald man next to him, an idea forming in his mind.

The girl in black gauze said in an anxious voice, "Mr. 6769, if you take the initiative to provoke trouble, the newcomer protection will not work."

Huang Yong ignored the black gauze girl's warning and directly punched the bald man next to him. The bald man seemed highly responsive, or perhaps it was ingrained habit. He immediately swung a huge hammer towards Huang Yong's punch.

Huang Yong's fist collided with the bald man's hammer. Huang Yong himself remained motionless, while the bald man staggered back three steps.

This was the Killing Capital, and Huang Yong had no mercy here.

Huang Yong attacked again. The bald man gritted his teeth, using all his strength to hit him with the hammer. However, this time Huang Yong did not wish to confront the bald man head-on. Instead, he formed a claw instead of a fist and directly knocked away the bald man's hammer.

Immediately afterward, he punched with his other arm, the blow directly destroying the bald man's shoulder.

With his shoulder obliterated and bleeding profusely, the bald man seemed ferociously determined. He ignored his wounds and picked up the hammer, swinging it directly at Huang Yong.

Seeing this, Huang Yong grabbed one of the bald man's arms and tore it apart. The next moment, he seized the bald man's throat and ripped it open; blood splattered everywhere.

Immediately afterward, he took out glass of Bloody Mary from the bald man, then handed to the girl in black gauze beside him. Huang Yong's fist and armor were dripping with blood, belonging, of course, to the bald man.

At this sight, the black-veiled girl couldn't help but swallow her saliva. This young man was terrifyingly powerful, easily killing the bald man, who, she knew, was a player with eleven wins in the Hell Killing Fields – a considerable achievement.

"Miss, please sign me up. I want to participate in the competition in the Hell Killing Fields."

At this point, the girl in black gauze no longer doubted Huang Yong's strength. She hurriedly took the token and began to arrange the game for him.

After waiting for only an hour, Huang Yong was signed up for the competition in the Hell Killing Fields. When he walked onto the Killing Ground, nine other players were already standing there. All nine were filled with vigilance, no one willing to make the first move.

Huang Yong couldn't help but recall a saying: this is a world of killing, there will be no friends, everyone is your enemy.

Huang Yong couldn't help but whisper: "Everyone is my enemy, so kill everyone."
