"Now, I want to have a talk with my grandson alone." The old man spoke as he glanced at Mia and Adam. "You two can go ahead and check your rooms, as that will be where you'll be staying from now on."
"But Father..." Mia tried protesting, but her father interrupted her.
"Just leave already! I'm going to talk with my heir-to-be alone without your damn interference."
Mia clicked her tongue in annoyance but didn't say anything else as she walked away, leading Adam outside the office while casting her son one last look.
Once they had left the room, Oliver looked at his grandfather. Even if he looked like someone who might keel over and die at any second, the old man was still intimidating with those sharp eyes that felt as if they could see through him and read his mind.
There was also a certain aura of authority that radiated off him.
As if one word from him could get anyone executed.
'With that many guards and everything else about him, I'm sure that it's not impossible for him to actually do that,' Oliver thought as he remembered the guards outside and how intimidating they looked.
William Ashford sat back in his chair and looked Oliver up and down before speaking, "First, tell me what you think. And be honest with me."
"Uh..." Oliver blinked at the question, not knowing where this was going at first. "What do you mean?"
William let out a small grunt in irritation as he saw that Oliver couldn't seem to understand him. "I want to hear what you think of all this. About taking my name and inheriting my wealth and power, you idiot!"
"Oh... well, I suppose that I'm a little bit confused. I didn't know about you up until a few moments ago, you know? Not to mention how I'm going to inherit your wealth and whatnot. I mean, I don't exactly care about money and power."
Oliver shrugged as he said those words because it was the truth. He wasn't interested in that stuff; instead, he liked having fun and trying new things out.
However, when he said this, William burst into laughter, leaving Oliver completely taken aback.
What in the world is so funny to make a serious-looking old man like him burst out laughing in such a manner?
After laughing for a few moments, William stopped and fixed him with a smirk. "You care about fucking women more, right? So much so that you fucked your own mom and sister."
"H-How?" Oliver stuttered in shock from William's sudden words.
"You think I don't know everything that's going on with my grandson? Don't underestimate me! I know about every single one of your sexual escapades... I know how you fucked your own mother and sister. I even know how you fucked that old bitch called Jane."
As William spoke, a sneer formed on his face that made Oliver gulp involuntarily. The old man looked at him with contempt, like a vulture would at its prey.
Seeing how shaken his grandson had become, William began speaking again in an authoritative tone, "Let me tell you something very important. There will always be people out there who will try to take advantage of you. Whether you have power, wealth, or are just an ordinary man... it doesn't matter."
"If you want to survive in this world, you need to keep your guard up at all times. There are many hidden predators lurking in the shadows, waiting for their chance to strike when your back is turned. And they won't hesitate to use any method necessary to achieve their goal if given the opportunity."
He paused, waiting for the message to sink in, before continuing.
"I am not saying that what you did was wrong or anything like that. On the contrary, I am quite impressed at how bold you have become lately. And your sexual prowess... I know how you have pleased almost every woman you come across, whether she's your family, a friend, or even a stranger."
"With how horny you are, I won't have to worry about not having a successor to continue the Ashford legacy after you. Hahahaha... However, I want you to listen carefully to what I'm about to tell you now. Power and money will make sure that nobody can stop you from enjoying every second of your life without fear or worries."
"Therefore, I want you to use everything I have given to you and use them to live your life to the fullest, but for that to happen, you need to understand how to use them, and that's where Mia can help you with it. Learn about Ashford's businesses and grow them. Even surpass me. So that you can truly enjoy everything!"
Oliver stared at his grandfather, trying to digest the words that he just heard. Everything that the old man said seemed to be very logical and practical, yet also very different from how he saw the world around him.
'To live my life to the fullest, I have to understand how to use money and power...?' Oliver wondered about it, but he found himself unable to deny anything that William said. 'It's common sense that those with power and money can do as they please, even if it's something that others might not like. And now I'm included in this'.
He looked around at his surroundings. The extravagantly decorated office, the luxurious furniture, the huge windows offering a beautiful view of the city, and finally, the throne where his grandfather sat, looking like royalty himself. All this showed him how far the difference in their lives was.
'And now, I'm the heir to Ashford's empire... which means I'll be able to live the exact same life as him and do what I like with no restrictions.'
For the first time since he had found out about his grandfather and his wealth, he began feeling excited. Excited about what kind of changes his life would go through from now on.
"I understand, Grandfather. I will learn about our businesses and make sure that Ashford's legacy stays strong." Oliver looked at William with determined eyes, showing that he meant every word.
