Oliver found his parents already waiting in the living room when he stepped in. His grandmother, uncle, aunt, and cousin were also standing there, looking confused.
Adam had been staring at Mia as if waiting for her to explain something, while she avoided making eye contact with him. Instead, her face was a mask of seriousness, and she appeared lost in thought.
When Oliver reached the living room, Mia turned her head toward him and motioned him over.
"It looks like you're ready. Let's go." She turned around and walked to the front door with Oliver right beside her.
Adam didn't know what to say. Instead, he sighed and nodded towards the others. "We'll call you later to let you know what's going on. Take care until then."
"Alright..." Jane gave a hesitant nod.
The trio then left the beach house, walking straight towards the helicopter waiting for them on the beach.
Elle opened the door for them, then escorted them inside before taking her seat on the opposite side.
Mia sat in the middle with Oliver to her right, while Adam was to her left.
Once they were buckled in securely, the helicopter lifted off into the air and headed toward the sky.
A couple of minutes passed, and they found themselves looking out through the window as they flew farther away from the beach.
The weather was beautiful, and the sea below them glittered.
However, while this could have been a beautiful day if Mia were to look at it another way, today seemed a bit strange.
She didn't feel like relaxing and enjoying it like she usually did. Instead, she felt restless and uneasy.
As for Oliver, he was a little confused but, at the same time, excited as well. He never expected that he'd ever fly in a helicopter one day. This was the first time he'd been inside a helicopter, and it was a totally different experience than riding in a regular plane.
Since the weather was good, it made everything look amazing as it flew in the sky.
"Wow! This is so cool." Oliver looked around, observing everything.
Adam chuckled softly beside him. "Yes." He admitted, "The view's spectacular from up here."
Elle smiled at Oliver's excited expression and said in a playful tone, "Don't worry, Mr. Oliver. I'm sure this won't be something rare for you to experience."
"Huh?" Oliver blinked in confusion. He wasn't sure what she meant by that but decided to ignore it for now.
Instead, he turned to his mother and asked, "Mom, are you alright? I don't like seeing your face so worried and stressed out."
Mia gave him a weak smile, then closed her eyes and leaned into his body while holding his arm against her breast. It made her feel warm, cozy, and safe.
"Don't worry, darling. I'm fine. I just have a lot on my mind right now."
Oliver gave her a gentle squeeze and whispered back softly, "If you say so, Mom."
***
After a short flight, the helicopter flew towards a luxurious mansion located on the top of a hill that overlooked the city. It circled around before landing gently in front of a grand entrance where a group of men in suits and sunglasses stood waiting for them.
Oliver and Adam took in the sight around them as the trio was led off the helicopter.
The mansion looked massive, bigger than any house the two of them had seen. They wondered what kind of person Mr. William Ashford must be.
There was a fountain at the center of the yard with several benches scattered around the perimeter. The ground was covered in soft green grass, making it seem more like a park than someone's yard.
Everything about this place screamed wealth and luxury.
However, they noticed that there were several armed guards positioned around the perimeter as well. That was enough to give them an idea of how important the people staying here must be.
Seeing the men's intimidating appearances, Oliver couldn't help but think to himself, 'I wonder if these people would shoot someone without hesitation if they tried to break into this house?'
Elle led them through the mansion's main doors and into an enormous living room. Everything was designed to exude elegance and sophistication. A giant chandelier hung from the ceiling, illuminating the room with its soft glow.
There were many paintings adorning the walls along with a number of elegant furniture pieces sitting neatly in their appropriate places. The floors were covered in a thick carpet made from expensive materials.
They spotted some expensive antiques here and there and many more fancy things they couldn't recognize right away.
However, they didn't spend much time admiring the interior decorating. Instead, they followed Elle's lead as she guided them upstairs.
Once they walked through a large hallway, she led them to a closed double door.
Mia frowned when she reached this place. This place brought back a lot of unwanted memories, which made her face tense up.
She didn't want to come back here and face him after she finally decided to cut him off from her life.
Yet here she was, standing in front of this door, feeling angry, irritated, and frustrated all at once.
So before Elle could even knock on the door, Mia pushed open both of the doors, barging into the room without giving her any chance to do so.
Oliver and Adam immediately noticed the tension that hung in the air as soon as they stepped into the room. The first thing that greeted their eyes was the back of a huge chair facing towards a window that overlooked the city.
It looked like a throne made from ebony wood and decorated with gold metal plating. They guessed that whoever sat there was arrogant and enjoyed lording over others.
Mia stopped in her tracks and stared ahead coldly. "Well, well, well... It seems you're still as arrogant as ever, aren't you? Thinking you're king and acting like you own everything... and everyone around you."
