Shen Yelan was playing a game on her phone with a lollipop dangling between her lips when Teacher Gao came with the Principal. She looked up from the phone and froze.
Why was he here?
The man standing next to Teacher Gao was an old man with silver hair and a beard. He was wearing thin-framed glasses and had a stern look on his face.
He was Yang Yifan, her teacher. No, it would be better to say her former teacher. In her past life, when she was wandering around in streets, scraping for food at the age of four, he was the man who had found her and had taken her in. He was the one who had raised her and taught her everything, allowing her to reach the highest pinnacle in her previous life. It was better to say he was like her father, even if she had never called him that.
Shen Yelan stared at her, caught completely off guard. Out of everywhere, this was the least expected place she had ever thought to run into him. In fact, she never expected to run into anyone from her previous life. Or rather, she had been avoiding running into them. While she had many enemies, there were a few people she could actually call her family, even if they were not related by blood.
Meeting them would only remind her that she was dead and was no longer part of their life. Besides, it was not like she could go up to them and say, 'Hei, I am Lei Mei, and I have been reborn after dying'. Even she thought that sounded insane.
Shen Yelan immeditly schooled her expression, hoping Yang Yifan did not catch it. Unfortunately for her, Yang Yifan had noticed everything. While he did not show it on his face, he was deeply thinking about whether he had met this girl before.
There were not many people who knew his real identity, and judging from her reaction, she knew who he was, even though she tried to hide it. Besides, he did not know why, but this girl seemed familiar. But no matter how much he thought about it, he was quite sure he had never met her before.
"Teacher Gao told me you have scored quite well in the placement exam," Yang Yifan told her.
Shen Yelan blinked. Did she hear him correctly, or was her ear playing a trick on her? They called her performance good? Then what did they consider bad? It seems like she should have done her research on this school these past days instead of wasting her time sleeping. But she was not to blame. She had always considered going to school a trivial matter. She would rather get some sleep than waste time on it.
"Based on your performance, you will be placed in Grade 12, class 1. Best of luck for your future," Yang Yifan told her and then turned around, leaving.
Shen Yelan stared at his back until he was out of her view. At her side, her hands clenched tight, her nails digging deep into her palms. Teacher Gao seemed to be saying something, but she paid no attention to him. Her mind was still fixed on Yang Yifan.
He has gotten old.
Teacher Gao took her to the class. A female teacher was standing at the front, explaining something, when Teacher Gao knocked on the door.
"Sorry to disturb you, Teacher Rong, but I brought a new student for your class." Teacher Gao said and stepped aside, revealing Shen Yelan. Immeditly, everyone looked at her.
It was the girl everyone had been talking about since the morning. Many students looked at her excitedly, but there were also many hostile gazes on her. No. 17 High School was, after all, not a typical school. The students here moved in groups and had no regard for rules. They rarely had new students here and won't easily accept a new person, no matter how attractive she was.
Teacher Gao left after he had dropped her off.
"Why don't you introduce yourself?" Teacher Rong told her.
Standing at the front, Shen Yelan ran her gaze around, taking in each and every face. Though this school has a uniform, most of them had it altered or were not wearing it properly. There were even a few students who were wearing makeup or had their hair dyed.
Shen Yelan quirked an eyebrow and made a mental note to look into this school later. She might not have attended a school in her previous life, but she was certain this was not how it was supposed to look like.
Did Shen Chengwei know what kind of place he was sending her to? Or was it precisely because he was aware that he sent her here? If that was the case, he might have made the biggest mistake of his life.
"Shen Yelan," she introduced herself.
When she did not say anything further, the teacher told her to take one of the empty seats at the very back. When she sat down on the seat next to the window, almost everyone in the class paused for a moment and looked at her as if she had lost her mind.
The girl sitting at the seat in front of her turned around and ran her gaze all over Shen Yelan from her head to toe before it moved back to her face. She had shoulder-length hair and was one of the few students who had no makeup on, but she had her sleeves rolled up halfway to her elbows, revealing a simple black leather bracelet on her wrist.
After staring at her for a couple of seconds, she snorted and looked away.
Shen Yelan leaned back in the chair and rested her elbow on the window with her chin propped on the back of her palm. She looked around the class, and the corner of her lips curved upward.
It seems like the school life won't be as boring as she had initially thought.
