Chapter 92 - Part 91

Voss lay on the floor, gasping for breath, his once-commanding presence reduced to a pitiful heap. I watched him struggle, the desire to finish what I'd started pulsing within me, but something held me back—something I didn't expect. A flicker of doubt.

The hunger was still there, still clawing at me, urging me to finish him. To end this entire nightmare once and for all. But as I looked down at Voss, a strange calmness settled over me. Was it relief? Satisfaction? Or was it something more dangerous, something darker?

I took a step back, the weight of my actions settling in. I had spent so long trying to fight the darkness, trying to control the chaos within, but now it felt like I had embraced it fully. There was no going back.

Alan stepped forward, his voice steady as always. "It's done, Psychobi. We've won. Voss is finished."

But I didn't answer. I couldn't. The words felt hollow, as if they belonged to someone else.

Mara joined Alan at my side, her expression unreadable. "You're done, Psycho. This is the end. You don't have to do anything else. We've exposed Zenith for what it is. We've torn it apart."

I turned to face them, but my mind was somewhere else, lost in a sea of thoughts and emotions that were swirling out of control. My gaze drifted back to Voss, still lying motionless on the floor, the last remnants of his arrogance now gone.

"Why do you still care?" I whispered, the words barely audible, as if I was talking to myself more than anyone else. "Why do I still care?"

Alan met my eyes, a hint of understanding in his. "Because you're not what they made you, Psychobi. You're not a monster. You're someone who's been hurt, manipulated, twisted. But you're still human."

I shook my head slowly, the words not sinking in. "I don't know what I am anymore. I don't know what's left of me."

Mara placed a hand on my shoulder, her touch gentle yet firm. "You're alive. That's all that matters."

I turned away from them, feeling the weight of their words, but I didn't know if they were true. I wasn't sure of anything anymore.

Voss stirred behind me, his voice weak and strained. "You're nothing... You'll never be free. You'll always be a pawn in someone else's game."

I didn't look back. I didn't need to. I knew he was right, but the difference now was that I had no intention of being anyone's pawn anymore. I had played this game long enough. The power was in my hands now, and I wasn't going to let anyone control me again.

"You're wrong," I said, my voice quiet but unwavering. "I'm not anyone's pawn anymore."

I turned to Alan and Mara. "Let's go. It's time to leave this place behind."

We made our way to the exit, the weight of the moment still heavy in the air, but there was a sense of finality in my steps. I could hear the distant sounds of sirens, the faint rush of people reacting to the chaos we had unleashed, but I didn't care. The world would keep spinning, with or without me.

As we stepped out into the cold night air, I could feel the hunger inside me slowly starting to fade, the urgency that had driven me forward now retreating into the recesses of my mind. I had done what I came here to do. I had torn down Zenith. But the question remained: What now?

I glanced at Alan and Mara, both of them silently walking beside me, knowing that there was nothing more to say. We had all made choices, had all crossed lines. But the future was still unknown.

The city stretched out before us, its lights shimmering in the distance. I could almost feel the pulse of it, the heartbeat of the world around me, but it didn't matter anymore. The hunger had been satisfied—for now. The monster inside me wasn't gone, but it was no longer driving me. The choice was mine now.

And I would have to live with it.

We walked into the night, the silence between us a reflection of everything that had happened. The end of one chapter, the beginning of another. What would I become now? Would I be able to find peace? Or would I always be chasing the darkness?

I didn't know. But for the first time, I felt like I had a chance to find out.

And maybe, just maybe, that was enough.
