Chapter 87 - Part 86

The air in the safe house felt dense, suffocating with anticipation as we prepped for the strike. Every move, every decision, was weighed heavily. There was no room for error. The intel we had uncovered about the mole, the one I had trusted, had shifted everything. Trust was a currency I no longer had.

Alan was already at the weapons table, loading and checking gear with meticulous precision. His calmness was a stark contrast to the chaos churning inside me. I could feel it now—this was the moment I had been waiting for, but also the moment I feared. The hunger inside me had never been stronger. It clawed at me, demanding action, demanding release. And I knew that if I wasn't careful, I would give in to it fully.

Mara was working quickly, her fingers flying over the keyboard, securing the last of the intel we would need. "I've traced his movements," she said, her voice focused. "He's meeting with someone in the next hour. If we move quickly, we can catch him in the act."

"Good," I replied, my voice colder than I intended. I could feel the urge to move, to take action, rushing through me. My hand clenched into a fist, and I forced myself to breathe, to control the impulses bubbling beneath the surface.

Alan glanced up, his eyes sharp. "We have one shot at this. No mistakes."

I nodded. "Understood. We go in hard. We hit fast."

The plan was simple. We would infiltrate the meeting, extract the mole, and get the information we needed. But I knew, deep down, that the mole wasn't the only thing we had to deal with. It wasn't just about taking them out; it was about sending a message. A message to Zenith. A message to anyone who dared to stand in our way.

We suited up in silence, each of us lost in our thoughts, preparing for what we were about to do. I looked at Mara and Alan, the two people who had been with me through everything. They were more than just allies—they were the only constants in this chaotic world.

"We do this, and there's no turning back," I said quietly, the words hanging in the air.

Mara didn't flinch. She had been in enough situations like this to know what was at stake. Alan only gave a short nod, but I could see the resolve in his eyes. We were all ready, even if none of us truly knew what would happen once we crossed that line.

We moved swiftly, blending into the shadows of the city. The streets were quieter now, the soft hum of traffic and distant voices mixing with the pounding of my heart. The hunger, the need, was growing stronger with each step. I could feel it gnawing at my thoughts, urging me to act. But I pushed it down. For now, I could control it.

We arrived at the building—an abandoned factory on the outskirts of town. It was the perfect location for a clandestine meeting, far enough from prying eyes but close enough to the heart of Zenith's operations. I didn't trust the place, but it was our best shot. We knew the layout, and we had the element of surprise.

As we approached the entrance, Alan took point, moving with the precision of someone who had done this a thousand times before. I followed closely, my mind racing. The plan was simple, but every move felt like a game of chance. One wrong step, and everything could unravel.

We reached the door. Alan paused for a moment, listening for any sound on the other side. His eyes met mine, and I gave him a subtle nod. He was ready.

With a single motion, he pushed the door open, and we moved in, guns drawn. The interior of the factory was dimly lit, the air heavy with dust and the smell of decay. It was silent, save for the faint echo of our footsteps as we moved deeper into the building. Every corner, every shadow, was a potential threat. We had to be careful. We couldn't afford to be caught off guard.

The meeting room was at the far end of the factory, a large open space that had been repurposed into an impromptu office. The mole was there, along with a few others—Zenith operatives, their faces hidden behind masks. The sight of them only fueled the fire inside me. I could feel it now—the sharp edge of my desire to destroy, to tear through everything that had betrayed me.

We took position just outside the room. Alan and Mara moved into position, each of them taking cover, ready to breach. I stayed in the shadows, watching through a crack in the door. My heart pounded in my chest. The hunger was at the forefront now, roaring in my mind.

The moment was approaching. The air seemed to crackle with tension.

Then, the signal. Alan kicked the door open, and we flooded the room.

The operatives barely had time to react before Alan and Mara neutralized them. I didn't wait. I rushed forward, my eyes locking onto the mole. He didn't even flinch. There was no fear in his eyes, only cold, calculating detachment.

"You," I hissed, my voice low and dangerous. I could feel the pulse in my head, the pressure building. "You betrayed me. You betrayed us."

The mole's lips curled into a half-smile, his eyes gleaming with something I couldn't quite place. "You always were too trusting, Psychobi," he said, his voice smooth, mocking. "But you never understood the bigger picture. This—this was never about you. It was about power. And I'm just a small part of something much bigger."

I could feel the hunger building again, that dark, consuming desire to end him. To make him pay for the betrayal. But I also knew something else. He wasn't the real threat. He was just a pawn in a game much larger than any of us had imagined.

I took a step forward, my hand tightening around the gun. My finger hovered over the trigger. But as I looked into his eyes, something stopped me. A cold realization.

This wasn't just about him. It was about Zenith. It was about everything they represented. And if I wanted to tear them down, I couldn't let myself be consumed by this. Not yet.

I lowered my weapon, the decision made.

"We're done here," I said, my voice cold. "Get him out of my sight."

Alan and Mara quickly secured the mole, and we moved out. But as we left the building, my mind was already turning, already planning the next move. The real fight was just beginning. And this time, I wouldn't stop until I had destroyed everything in my path.

Because the hunger? It was only going to grow. And this time, I was ready to embrace it.
