Chapter 853 - Chapter 853: Team Reorganization

"Perhaps using ocular techniques capable of bringing the dead back to life requires paying an unimaginable price," Minato mused after careful consideration of the implications. Despite the tremendous power of Uchiha eye techniques, he understood from experience that all powerful abilities demanded equivalent sacrifice.

The fundamental nature of the Mangekyō Sharingan itself demonstrated this principle clearly. Each use of its advanced techniques gradually diminished the user's eyesight, eventually leading to complete blindness if used extensively. Given this established pattern, a technique that violated the fundamental laws of life and death—resurrection itself—would inevitably carry an even more severe cost.

If such power could be used freely without consequence, someone with the First Hokage's abilities enhanced by resurrection techniques would indeed be capable of world domination. The fact that such dominance hadn't occurred suggested significant limitations or prices associated with these forbidden arts.

Another possibility that occurred to Minato was that while Madara might have successfully obtained cellular material from the First Hokage, he had been unable to properly integrate that power into his own body. While Minato wasn't a medical specialist, he possessed enough knowledge to understand that Hashirama's unique abilities weren't simply transferable to other individuals.

The First Hokage's power had been intimately connected to his specific physiology and chakra nature. Attempting to force such abilities into an incompatible body could easily result in rejection, mutation, or death rather than enhancement.

"Tsunade-sama," Minato said suddenly, struck by a new possibility, "would it be feasible for you to cultivate samples of the First Hokage's cells?"

The question stemmed from his analysis of his battle with the masked man. The enemy's Mangekyō Sharingan had demonstrated power far beyond what should have been possible for typical Uchiha ocular techniques. If that enhancement was indeed derived from integration with Hashirama's cellular material, then similar enhancement might be possible for allies as well.

Specifically, Minato was thinking of Uchiha Yoruki, whose eyesight had deteriorated significantly following the intense battle several months earlier. If Yoruki could successfully integrate First Hokage cells, his Mangekyō Sharingan might avoid the usual progression toward blindness while gaining enhanced capabilities.

"The technique itself is certainly possible," Tsunade replied after a moment of consideration, though her expression showed wariness. "What exactly are you planning to do with such cultivation?"

Minato explained his reasoning without reservation, outlining his theories about the masked man's enhanced abilities and his concerns about Yoruki's declining vision.

"Your hypothesis has substantial merit," Tsunade acknowledged, nodding thoughtfully. "The evidence you've observed certainly supports that conclusion."

However, her expression grew more serious as she continued. "While cultivating my grandfather's cells feels somewhat like desecration, I believe that if he were still alive, he might well ask the same questions you're raising. The potential to protect the village would likely outweigh his personal concerns about the use of his remains."

She paused before delivering a crucial warning. "Nevertheless, I must remind you that while the Uchiha clan may not possess the overwhelming dominance they held in previous generations, their current power should not be underestimated. Continuing to enhance their capabilities further might not serve the village's best interests."

The current Uchiha clan already possessed three pairs of Mangekyō Sharingan—a concentration of power that represented the strongest the clan had been since the era when Madara himself had served as their leader. If Minato's enhancement plan succeeded, those three pairs of legendary eyes could potentially reach the same level of power demonstrated by the masked enemy.

Under proper control, such enhanced abilities would undoubtedly provide tremendous benefits to Konoha's defense capabilities. However, excessive concentration of power within any single family or faction carried inherent risks. Even if the clan's leadership harbored no seditious intentions, individual members might develop dangerous ambitions if they felt their power exceeded that of the village's other forces.

"I'm fully aware of those concerns," Minato replied gravely, acknowledging the validity of her warnings. "I understand the risks involved."

If his plan to enhance Yoruki succeeded, the Uchiha clan would effectively gain another ninja with potential comparable to the legendary Madara himself. The thought was both exciting and terrifying, particularly given Minato's uncertainty about the young man's ultimate loyalties and motivations.

Yoruki remained something of an enigma even to Minato. While he had proven himself loyal and capable during recent crises, his true thoughts and long-term objectives remained unclear. If a ninja of such enhanced strength chose to oppose the village, even Minato might struggle to contain the threat.

"For that reason," Minato continued seriously, "knowledge of this research should be limited to as few people as possible until we can be certain of the results and implications."

"I understand completely," Tsunade replied, taking a deep breath as she accepted the weight of this responsibility. "After all, our real enemies are those external forces that threaten everything we've built. The Uchiha clan's contributions to this village over the years have been undeniable."

"Thank you for undertaking this difficult work," Minato said with genuine respect, recognizing both the technical challenges and moral complexities she would face.

Early the following morning, Minato arranged a private meeting with the Third Hokage to share his speculations about the First Hokage's cells and their implications for village security. The conversation lasted several hours as they explored every angle of this disturbing development.

Following their discussion, Hiruzen contacted the village's other senior advisors—Utane Koharu and Homura Mitokado—to address an issue that had been festering for months. The time had finally come to formally address Danzo's increasingly problematic behavior and its impact on village security.

The advisors had gathered not only to discuss Minato's recent discoveries but also to draft a formal request to the Daimyo of the Land of Fire for Danzo's removal from his position as one of Konoha's elders.

While Danzo had undeniably made significant contributions to the village during his decades of service, his actions in recent years had caused more harm than benefit. His decision to hide with Root members during Nagato's first assault—prioritizing the preservation of his personal forces over village defense—had been the final straw that led to Root's dissolution.

More damaging still were the intelligence reports that had emerged during the village's reconstruction efforts. Minato's investigation teams had uncovered evidence that when he first became Hokage, Danzo had secretly collaborated with Hanzo of the Rain Village to orchestrate attacks against the original Akatsuki organization.

This betrayal had directly contributed to Nagato's transformation from a hopeful idealist seeking peace into a bitter enemy dedicated to Konoha's destruction. Danzo's manipulations had helped create one of the most dangerous threats the village had ever faced.

Even the Third Hokage, who had previously shown tolerance for Danzo's questionable methods, could no longer overlook such catastrophic failures in judgment.

However, removing someone who had held power for decades required careful planning. Despite Root's official dissolution, Danzo still maintained significant personal influence and resources throughout the village. With the community's stability recently restored after extensive reconstruction, Minato and the senior leadership chose a gradual approach that would slowly diminish Danzo's remaining power base without triggering internal conflict.

A week later, pursuant to Minato's orders, the members of both Kakashi's team and Shisui's team assembled in the Hokage's office. The young ninja gathered with varying degrees of curiosity and anticipation, unsure why both teams had been summoned simultaneously.

"Dad, do you have an important mission for us?" Naruto asked with characteristic enthusiasm, practically bouncing with energy as he anticipated their next assignment.

Minato rose from his position behind the imposing desk and shook his head slightly, his expression carrying the gravity of significant organizational changes.

"Actually, I've called both teams here today to make an important announcement regarding your future assignments," he began formally.

"Effective immediately, the members of Kakashi's team and Shisui's team will be merged into a single unit, with Kakashi continuing as the primary instructor. Shisui and several of the current members will be receiving different assignments that better serve the village's evolving needs."

The announcement struck the assembled young ninja like a thunderbolt. Everyone except Kakashi and Shisui showed visible shock and confusion at this unexpected reorganization.

"Shin," Minato continued, addressing the quiet member of Shisui's team directly, "you will be reporting to the reconnaissance division for assignment. Your Super Beast Scroll techniques represent exactly the kind of capability they require for expanded intelligence operations."

Shin was originally one of Danzo's agents, planted to monitor both Shisui and Naruto's activities. However, with Shisui being reassigned and Danzo's influence systematically dismantled, continuing this surveillance was no longer necessary. More importantly, his unique abilities would serve the village better in legitimate intelligence gathering.

"Yes, sir!" Shin responded with a sharp salute, though his eyes betrayed a hint of regret as he glanced toward Chiharu and Naruto. Despite his original mission, genuine friendships had developed during their time together.

"Sasuke," Minato said, turning his attention to the young Uchiha, "you will be accompanying Shisui to your new assignment. Report to him for further instructions."

Sasuke nodded with his characteristic stoic composure, though there was a spark of curiosity in his dark eyes about what this new role might entail.

"Sasuke..." Sakura said softly, unable to hide her disappointment at their separation. Her feelings for the Uchiha prodigy had only grown stronger during their time as teammates.

"Sakura," Minato addressed her gently, "you will be reporting to Tsunade-sama for medical training. She has identified genuine talent in you for healing arts, and such skills are always in critical demand."

Sakura's expression immediately brightened with excitement and gratitude. "Thank you so much, Hokage-sama! I understand how incredible this opportunity is."

Training under one of the legendary Sannin represented a chance that most ninja could only dream of. The knowledge and techniques she would gain could potentially save countless lives in future conflicts.

"Naruto, Sai, and Chiharu," Minato concluded, "you three will form the new Team 7 configuration and continue carrying out missions assigned by the village leadership."

With the reassignments complete, Shisui approached the remaining members of the original teams with his characteristic warm smile. "I expect everyone to continue working hard and growing stronger in your new positions. This isn't goodbye—we're all still part of the same village family."

"We will," the young ninja responded in unison, their voices carrying determination despite the emotional difficulty of separation.

Shisui then departed with Sasuke, Sakura, and Shin, leaving behind a significantly smaller but still capable team.

After the others had left, Naruto's curiosity finally overcame his restraint. He approached his father with obvious concern and confusion.

"Dad, what exactly are Shisui-sensei and Sasuke going to be doing? Why is everything so secretive?"

Before Minato could respond, Kakashi stepped forward and placed a gentle but firm hand on Naruto's head—a gesture both protective and cautionary.

"Since the Hokage hasn't provided specific details about their assignments, it means that information is classified at the highest levels," Kakashi explained patiently. "You need to stop asking questions about their whereabouts."

Naruto and Chiharu had maintained close relationships with Kakashi since childhood, so his transition to their primary instructor wouldn't create the adjustment difficulties that might arise with a completely new sensei.

"Kakashi," Minato said with obvious gravity, "I'm entrusting these children to your care. The responsibility is considerable."

"I understand completely," Kakashi replied with equal seriousness. "You can count on me."

Only the two adult ninja fully comprehended the deeper implications of this conversation. Naruto served as the Nine-Tails' jinchuriki, and maintaining control over the tailed beast's power required constant vigilance and specialized knowledge.

Previously, Shisui had served this protective role, using his Sharingan abilities to monitor and potentially suppress any leakage of the Nine-Tails' influence. Now that responsibility would fall to Kakashi, who had spent considerable time learning advanced Uzumaki sealing techniques under Minato's direct instruction specifically for this purpose.

The team reorganization served multiple strategic objectives: placing talented individuals where their skills could be best utilized, removing potential security risks from sensitive positions, and ensuring that critical protective measures remained in place for the village's most important assets.
