When the mental heat in the room reached it's peak, Sam raised a hand and tapped the intercom.
"Let's take ten," Sam said, leaning back. "Everyone breathe, no sense jumping in without coffee."
A moment later, the oak door opened.
A young estate assistant stepped inside, carrying a large silver refreshment platter.
She was around twenty-two, with soft hazel eyes and honey-brown curls pinned neatly behind her ears, wearing a white blouse and a dark skirt. She moved with grace, keeping her gaze respectfully lowered.
On the platter sat a crystal bowl of chilled green and purple grapes, a plate of crackers beside white cheddar, a steaming silver carafe of Colombian coffee, and a pot of Earl Grey tea.
"Place it on the side table, Maya. Thank you," Sam said warmly.
"Right away, Mr. Johnson."
She quietly poured dark coffee for Marcus, a cup with cream for Julian, and hot tea for Arthur.
