Mephisto was filled with admiration. His Majesty's preparations were truly astounding.
It was no exaggeration. In Mephisto's view, his Lord's meticulous planning and the vast array of scenarios he had accounted for were beyond astonishing. In fact, it was as though his Lord intended to use the entire mythological world as a resource, nurturing the growth of the Underworld.
To Mephisto, this was no problem at all. Quite the contrary—he considered it inconsequential.
The reason was simple.
"His Majesty is truly awe-inspiring!" Mephisto exhaled deeply. This was his genuine feeling—a mixture of awe and shock.
If he hadn't participated in this firsthand, Mephisto would hardly have believed just how overwhelming and incredible this undertaking truly was.
As Mephisto reflected, four other Underworld gods—Aether, Ceres, Carl, and Europa—returned.
All four appeared exhausted, their faces pale from the extreme drain on their divine power.
But like Mephisto, they were also filled with awe and admiration.
"It's truly incredible," they murmured among themselves.
"Yes."
"Unbelievable."
"If we hadn't carried this out ourselves, we wouldn't believe it."
The four gods exchanged looks, all feeling the same undeniable shock.
But now, none of that mattered. It was done.
"Everyone," Mephisto managed a polite smile. "Is everything taken care of?"
The four gods nodded silently. They had done everything required.
"Then let's leave. We've done enough."
With that, Mephisto and the other four Underworld gods departed. Staying longer in the Mortal Realm would be unwise. Even with the Helm of Invisibility concealing them, if another god detected their presence, questions would be inevitable.
After all, what were five god-king-level Underworld gods doing in the Mortal Realm?
If they had been in the far north, it might have been understandable. The northernmost region was the Underworld's domain, where the gods of the Underworld often asserted their presence. But elsewhere? That would undoubtedly raise suspicion.
Thus, the five Underworld gods promptly returned to the far north, re-entering the Underworld and arriving at the Elysian Fields.
"Greetings, Your Majesty!"
"Greetings, Queen of the Underworld!"
The five gods knelt respectfully before Hades and Persephone, who sat high upon their thrones.
Hades opened his eyes and looked at them with a calm expression. "Mephisto, Aether, Ceres, Carl, Europa. Well done."
"Thank you, Your Majesty!" The five gods bowed low once more, pressing a hand to their chests in reverence.
For them, everything they possessed—their rise to the level of god-kings, their surpassing of natural limits—was owed to Hades. Their allegiance was absolute; they needed nothing more than to follow their Lord's path.
Hades continued, "In this mythological world, our plans can only be enacted once. For now, rest and wait for the future."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
The five Underworld gods rose and took their leave without another word.
They understood. This plan, this attempt, could only be carried out once. There would be no second chance.
The entire mythological world had barely tolerated this attempt. Any further action would certainly provoke a severe reaction, one that could throw the mythological world into chaos.
To proceed even one step further was impossible. Any further push would risk boiling the entire mythological world over, disrupting everything irreparably.
Grasping this one opportunity and taking only one shot was the best outcome.
"Sigh," Persephone sighed softly. "It's truly a shame. Just a bit more… If we could have pushed even a little further, the benefits to the Underworld would have been far greater."
Persephone understood her husband's intentions.
Thus, she felt a hint of regret. The plan was grand, and if fully realized, it would have ushered in unparalleled growth for the Underworld. With its successful completion, the Underworld would have undergone a transformation, birthing seven gods on par with the Ancient Gods or even the Creator God. The Underworld would have achieved unimaginable power and influence.
If that day had arrived…
The Underworld would truly transform, with seven beings rivaling the Ancient Gods, and countless enhancements that would elevate the Underworld to new heights.
But alas, all these elaborate preparations would need both time and opportunity to fully manifest.
"There's no need to force it," Hades said calmly. "The Underworld has long passed its formative stages. Now, we need only wait patiently; time will bring change naturally."
