Elena murmured, her voice quieter than usual, "Probably the punishment for snitching on whoever sent him. It would have been too much. It would have been greater than death. Which is why he killed himself."
Haze said nothing in reply.
Verin, surprisingly sober this time instead of dramatic, crouched next to the lifeless body. His fingers hovered for a moment, almost reverently, before he gently closed the dead man's eyes. A faint, cold wind whispered through the ruins, rustling their cloaks and stirring the leaves around their feet. He stood upright again, his expression unreadable. "Haze," he said quietly, "do you want to explore the temple?"
