The Thanans seem to have some hidden motives.
This is the unanimous opinion of several old members of the Westland diplomatic delegation responsible for the negotiations.
But they couldn't figure out what these Thanans would want—the city they see, so prosperous, is merely a remote port in the south belonging to the Thainan Union. If such a port can still be considered remote, then when they arrive at New Hangzhou Bay—the first deep-water port in the south of this vast country—what kind of enormous city will appear before them? It's completely unimaginable, completely incomprehensible.
What do the Thanans want? In recent years, if it weren't for Mr. Malin's push in the military industry, there is absolutely nothing in Westland that the Thanans would desire.
Someone indeed thought of requesting Mr. Malin to exchange technology with the Thanans using weapon blueprints as a condition, but this idea was quickly rejected by Ambassador Sidney Roben Messiah among others.
