Chapter 4327: Another Scheme of the Catastrophic Supreme?
The apparition of the Phoenix Ancestor stunned Lin Moyu. Within this formation had appeared an illusory shadow of the Divine Phoenix Ancestor this meant Lin Moyu had underestimated it. Clearly, the array contained mysteries beyond what was seen.
But the Purple Gold Divine Phoenix gave him no chance to study further. With a wave of his hand, he collapsed the formation back into the jade disk.
From entry to collapse, Lin Moyu had spent only a breath inside.
Yet the Purple Gold Divine Phoenix's amber eyes now glowed like twin suns. Even his voice carried a slight tremor:
"Daoist Lin… you're the one we've been searching for."
Lin Moyu frowned, not fully understanding. Nor did King Luoyu seem to grasp it.
The Purple Gold Divine Phoenix explained:
"Our ancestor wrote into our bloodline a message that we were to find one who could fully activate this array. For countless years we searched, and found none… but now, we've found him. It is you, Daoist Lin."
King Luoyu looked bewildered. "A message left in the bloodline itself?"
"Yes," said the Purple Gold Phoenix. "And only those of the first generation bloodline can perceive it."
That explained why even Luoyu, as a second generation, could not know.
Lin Moyu spoke evenly:
"This array runs on potential as its key. That's why you set similar potential testing arrays within the cities to distribute Purple Gold Fruits. You weren't rewarding faith you were searching."
"And the mark of one who fully awakens this great array is the appearance of the Ancestor's shadow."
The Phoenix was visibly excited.
"Daoist Lin is correct. That is exactly it."
Lin Moyu pressed further.
"And did your Ancestor say why you must find such a person?"
The Purple Gold Phoenix shook his head.
"No. The Ancestor only spoke through bloodline: such a person must be brought to the Ancestral Land of our Divine Phoenix Clan, to help with a matter for the clan."
"What kind of matter?" Lin Moyu asked immediately.
"We do not know," the Phoenix admitted honestly. "Even I do not. All my knowledge comes from the memory imprint. Even this formation disk was left by the Ancestor. The other two Phoenixes share the charge, but I am the primary one responsible."
Lin Moyu hesitated.
"If you cannot tell me what danger lies ahead, how can I agree? I am weak in cultivation. One careless step and I might end dead. I cherish my life too much to risk recklessly."
The Phoenix frowned. He had promised earlier that everything had to be voluntary that even the Ancestor himself had decreed it. He couldn't force Lin Moyu.
So he nodded.
"The Ancestor did leave one thing, however. If such a person were ever found, we were to show it to him."
"Oh?" Lin Moyu raised a brow. "What thing?"
"Please wait a moment. I'll bring it."
The Purple Gold Phoenix summoned a formation disk and activated it. From within surged a warped spatial channel, opening onto a hidden location.
From the passage wafted an ancient aura, thick and old as time itself.
Lin Moyu's brow furrowed sharply. It was a feeling he recognized.
This aura… I've sensed it before. In the Heavenly Void Land.
Cold suspicion rose in his chest.
It's too similar. Almost identical. Could it be…the Phoenix Ancestor also had dealings with the Catastrophic Supreme?
They seek one with extreme potential. If the Supreme of Catastrophe truly reincarnated, then who in Chaos could compare in latent potential?
Does "extreme potential" here mean someone capable of one day becoming a Supreme themselves? If so… the logic fits.
Lin Moyu's eyes deepened.
"In that case… I must see this through."
The Phoenix Ancestor was immensely old, his true fate long unknown. His power, while great, never reached the realm of a Supreme. If it was truly his work alone, then such a scheme could hardly last eons.
But if, like the Heavenly Void Son, he was a pawn of the Catastrophic Supreme then all threads aligned.
While Lin Moyu pondered, the Purple Gold Phoenix rummaged within the passage.
King Luoyu stood silent, at a complete loss. Matters had already surpassed his comprehension.
He belonged to second generation blood, far beneath the first founder descendants. He lacked certain parts of memory. Those of his class could never rise to first generation status, any more than the Purple Gold Phoenix could elevate himself to the level of the Phoenix Ancestor.
Strength was their birthright but so were limits.
At last the Purple Gold Phoenix let out a cry of triumph.
"Found it!"
He emerged, holding something delicate in his hand. "The ancestral land has grown chaotic I had to search awhile."
Lin Moyu's heart tightened. That spatial tunnel had connected directly to the Ancestral Land of the Phoenixes. His suspicions deepened further.
The Phoenix lifted a statue from the portal.
Small, barely half a meter tall, yet exquisitely detailed. It radiated the same ancient aura.
He offered it forward reverently.
"Daoist Lin, please look."
Lin Moyu's breath caught. He recognized it instantly.
It was a carving of the Catastrophic Supreme, identical to the image upon the Disaster Bearing Boat he had seen before. Staff of Catastrophe in hand, face deliberately erased.
There was no longer doubt. The Catastrophic Supreme was behind this.
Lin Moyu forced his expression flat, returning the statue. "And what… does this represent?"
The Phoenix shook his head. "I know not."
Lin Moyu smiled faintly.
"To be honest, I would very much like to help your clan. Yet if I go, danger may be great. I… truly fear death."
His feigned hesitation made the Phoenix subtly brighten with hope.
"If Daoist Lin accepts, whether success or failure, our clan will reward lavishly."
Just the words Lin Moyu was waiting for. He put on a strained look.
"Let me think about it a while."
"Of course," the Phoenix agreed readily. "Take all the time you need. I will remain here in the Sacred Peak. Call upon me when ready. This feather will serve to summon me."
He offered a single golden plume. With a flash of light, he personally escorted Lin Moyu back outside.
After he left, the Purple Gold Phoenix murmured,
"I truly hope he agrees."
King Luoyu asked doubtfully,
"Is it necessary to insist on his own will? He's merely a Chaos Lesser Completion."
The Phoenix's tone sharpened, ringing clearly,
"The Ancestor's edict was absolute: it must be voluntary. It cannot be forced. And he commanded us also to foster good relations with this person. I do not know why. But what is inscribed into our blood cannot be disobeyed."
Luoyu bowed. "Understood. And that statue is it within the ancestral land? Why have we never seen it?"
The Purple Gold Phoenix answered quietly,
"The ancestral grounds hold many forbidden zones. A few only we three can enter. Still you need not dwell on it. If this task succeeds, the entire clan will be blessed. Perhaps you yourself may ascend to first generation bloodline."
Luoyu's eyes blazed with sudden passion.
"Truly?"
The Phoenix nodded.
"The chance is very real."
