Chapter 130 - Chapter 125: Older Brothers Lie

Alix left the library with after Denver finished his story. She decided to checkout the book so that she could do an in depth read in her free time as she hadn't gotten to read it. Oh well, at least she still got an interesting story out of the whole situation.

Well, interesting enough.

Mysticism was always one of the most difficult magics to understand out there because it transformed mana into a different state, be sound, gas, or even a feeling. All of that made it an extremely difficult practice to master.

Like, how do you even go about transforming mana into a "feeling"? It's just amazing, to say the least.

So, to hear that centuries ago, there was a mystic prided in the lands Pesin that cause so many historical moments, like the Mystic's road as well as the Ravine of Rejection was indeed interesting. But none of that taught her anything about mysticism so they were not as informative as she would have liked.

"Denver seemed to like telling them at the very least!" Nuka said looking for a silver lining.

"True enough, but he was also very pushy in telling me about the theories that both turned out to be more fantastical than concrete." Alix shot down the bird's attempt to find positivity in the situation.

"We could also go to Amal! Ya know, to see if either one of those stories was true?" Mo was the next to throw his hat in the ring. Playing at Alix's curiosity.

"The stories were interesting..." Alix nodded with an intrigued look. Mo was ready to gloat. He'd managed to get Alix to-

"But not that interesting." Mo felt his core shake. "Why would I go across several hundred miles of land just to try to find out which of two theories are true? Does that seem like something I would do, Mo?"

"It-uhh-I-I guess not?"

"No need to guess, Mo. I can tell you that the answer is no. That is not something that is worth my time." Mo sighs dejectedly.

"Pfft!" Mo perks his head up at the sound of stifled laughter. He looks up and sees Nuka holding her wing in front of her beak in a failed attempt to hide her joy from seeing Mo get washed out by Alix.

"Watch it, Flappy! Or next time ya start heatin' up I'll knock ya outta' the air!"

"Really? You and what school?"

"I won't need a school when I can summon waves high enough to flood that precious sky of yers!" Nuka squawks in utter shock while Mo blubs smugly. Trouler and Alix ignore the two and just enjoy the walk back to Hedgie's tavern.

They make it back to the Port of Filth. The sky has fully darkened by this point. In comparison, the port is rather alive.

Pirates running around drinking, laughing, and fighting, like a bunch of kids just let out of school for a long break. Alix, on the other hand, knew that her night was just getting started.

She crossed the docks quickly arriving at the new and improved Pirate's Worst Nightmare! Now with outdoor seating, and a table for all of your gambling needs, the PWN is here to serve as the number 1 stop on any pirate's break from the pillaging and plundering on the high seas!

Alix walks past the outer area and walks inside her home away from home. The moment she walks inside a chorus of noise hits her ears.

'Seems the inside was more rowdy than the outside.' Kent walks out of the kitchen holding several drinks when he and Alix make eye contact.

"Oh thank the sea! You're here!" He places the drink in front of the customers and waves Alix over.

"Tonight's packed and I can't handle this alone!" Alix frowns.

"What about the new hires?" Kent looks at Alix unamused.

"We both knew what would happen when those two started working here." At that moment, a loud crash sounded out from the kitchen.

"Eric! Why did you do that?!"

"I didn't do anything! You were the one that dropped everything!"

"Because you were making fun of me! Stop making fun of me and just cook! That's what you got hired for! To cook! Not to talk and talk until my ears rot off! Speaking of rot, what about that rotting smell! Did you remember to throw out the bad food? No one's gonna wanna eat in here if it smells like a trash island!"

"Taking out the old food was your job! And I am cooking! I just mentioned that you were walking like the elks that I used to see in the mountains when I was a kid. Knees shaking and buckling with every step, anyone can tell that you're about to fall! How was I supposed to know that you were gonna drop everything because I said that?!"

"You're a jerk!"

"And you're a clumsy mess!" Kent, Alix, and all of the customers inside the tavern sat in silence as they listened to the entire argument between Eric and Alisa.

"I'll go get dressed, go outside and work the card table. I'll handle the two brats in the kitchen." Alix ordered and Kent happily obliged. He loved working the gambling table!

Alix let Kent race outside while she went into her room and put on her uniform. Her room was quite a bit bigger than it once was as Hedgie insisted that she stay in a larger room. Alix paid no mind to it as she didn't spend too much time in her room outside of spell crafting at her desk.

She set down all of her things, changed into her uniform and walked back to the restaurant floor to deal with the mess her rowdy brats were causing. The work night started with her yelling at Holiday and Alice to stop fighting and get back to work.

She then jumped right in with work like she'd been there all day. Alix had gotten quite used work and was now leading indoors so that Hedgie could serve drinks on the outside. The Pirate's Worst Nightmare had become the most beloved tavern in the Port of Filth! Though no one actually stayed there besides the workers, the service was amazing and the food was quite delicious!

Alix guided the children, that were force upon her, for a few hours before the restaurant closed for the night. All of the customers left to go do whatever they do after they leave while Alix and the others started cleaning up for the night.

"Another good day of work thanks to you lot!" Hedgie announces. "Good job you all!" Alisa and Eric both cheer in excitement only for Alix to cut them down.

"The hell are you two cheering for? Alice you dropped more food than you served and if I hadn't continued to go in and out of the kitchen I am certain that the entire thing would have gone up in flames from Holiday's haphazard cooking!" Eric and Alice both drooped their heads in shame.

"Sorry mom."

"Yeah, sorry Mama Wolf."

"Don't be sorry, be better!" Kent couldn't help but slightly chuckle watching his would-be-siblings get chastised by the woman he has chosen to call, mother...how did his life reach this point? Alix, clocking Kent's joy, turns around to face the boy.

"Since you're laughing back there, Tyrant, you must be ready to go to Omnicia with me tomorrow?" Kent's smile immediately drops.

"Aw what? Why do I have to go with you? You know where it is now!"

"I do! I just need a caddy to carry the things that I buy and thought, who better than the ex-pirate with nothing better to do?"

"Hey, I'm still a pirate!"

"Really? I haven't seen you go on any big journeys recently? Unless you count going from your bedroom to the bar as a journey?"

"Obviously, that's not a journey! Being a pirate is about more than going places y'know!"

"Oh is it? Then what else have you been up too? Do tell me!"

Kent stumbled as he realized his mistake. "W-well, nothing but-"

"Then you've been stealing from people?"

"Actually, Tyrant only steals from pirates! So, he's like a thief for good!" Alisa says, trying to take the heat off of Kent.

Hedgie rolls her eyes and scoffs. "Did he tell you that? Girl, Kent tricked you!"

Alisa turns to Hedgie in confusion. "He tricked me? How did he trick me?"

"Kent used to be one of the worst, most vile and scummy pirates of the Beyonder Seas! He was so terrifying that they called him the Half-Beast of the Western Sea! Stealing from people is just the tip of the iceberg for someone like him!" Alisa's eyes go wide and teary.

She slowly turns to look at Kent. "Is that true?"

"W-well, I take their money when I gamble-"

"That's definitely not the same thing, bro." Eric says. Kent feels a wave of guilt wash over him as he stares into Alisa's betrayed eyes.

"I thought you were cool, big bro!" Alisa runs into the back bawling her eyes out. The girl's words cut deep. Kent lost all of his will to argue with his mother.

"Fine, I'll go with you." He resigns.

Alix smirks. "Good, then make sure you get up early! I want to go first thing in the morning."
