Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: Bored, Worried, and Arguments

So boring...

Trouler lay in the cage that the Djinns have locked him staring at the ceiling. He was bored out of his mind. Nothing was happening! He remembered all the runs that him and the savior would go on and all the times that Mo had told him that he was doing a good job and how happy and giggly that it would get him.

Now all he had was some weird, wet-haired guy that either slept on the bed, floor, in the closet, or on Trouler's cage. Every once in a while some other people would show up and make some noise but it was always yelling and never included Trouler so that wasn't fun either.

Trouler was really missing his savior. She always kept him happy and not bored and didn't make him sleep in a cage. She really was the best! The person that saved him really made Trouler feel special. Meanwhile these jerks...

"Hey pig? You still alive in there?" Edmund kicked the cage which startled Trouler making him scramble to his hooves. "Good. It's time for your food." Edmund carelessly dropped a slightly rotten, half-eaten, carrot into the cage and then fell directly to the floor and went back to sleep.

"Don't choke." He whispered as he drifted off into whatever land he dreamt of. Trouler hesitantly sniffed the carrot then immediately reared back from the foul odor that it emitted.

The Savior also gave him better food than this. Trouler wished that he could talk to her again in his head like he had done...whenever he had last done it but every time he tried he couldn't seem to do it. Trouler heaved a dejected breath as he moved over to the carrot.

He grimaced at it for a second before forcing himself to eat it. This was all he was going to get for a while after all. All he could do was hope that his Savior would save him again so that he could eat good food again.

Like that cornbread stuff from the nice cook lady. That was really good!

...

A week quickly passed as Alix and the ones that call her mother searched the entire city for the Djinns. They looked in taverns, inns, random people's homes, they looked everywhere but could not find them!

Bam!

Alix slammed her fist into the ground. She was feeling more and more anxious every day that they didn't find Trouler. She also hadn't gotten anymore messages from him so she tried to send her own but she couldn't.

'These strings are useless if I can't use them when I actually need to!' Alix refused to give up on finding Trouler but she couldn't stop the doubt from creeping into her mind.

'What if we can't find him? What if the Djinns have already gotten rid of him or that masked alchemist used a potion on him that failed and killed him? Or what if they just didn't feed him? That's something that those idiots would forget to do!"

'Lexi just standing around worrying ain't gonna help us find him any faster. We need to keep looking and think happy thoughts." Alix turned to Mo with narrowed eyes.

'Happy thoughts?"

"Look, I know it sounds heartless when Trouler's missing but I think that it could help you keep searching for him. Besides, we're all still out looking! You can't give up hope until we exhaust all of our options. Also what kind of parent would you be if they get back and see you giving up!" Alix scowled at Mo but the girl's rage never scared him.

"Come on, Lexi! Happy thoughts!" Alix kept staring at Mo but forced a smile onto her face. Mo gave her proud nod. "That's what I'm talkin' about!" Alix could already feel her cheeks begin to ache from smiling but continued despite that.

'We better find those filthy, loudmouthed, two-bit criminal scum! Otherwise, I'm gonna tear this city apart until I find Trouler!'

...There you go Alix.

Happy thoughts!

...

"You think mom's doing okay?" Alisa asked her two brothers(technically). The three of them were currently walking down Lionfish Street in the Sea-Level district of Pesinwok. It was a street filled to the brim with some of the most high-end inns. They were here because they were on their way back to the Port of Filth to bring bad news to Alix.

"If she is right now then I would rather we didn't go back to tell her that we haven't found Trouler yet. I don't want to get fussed at again today." Eric responded to Alisa's question brazenly.

"Hey, you don't have to be so mean about it! I was just worried that she may be feeling down. She really seems to care about that...peccary thing. More so than I've seen her show care to even me." Eric looked at Alisa in disbelief.

"I don't think that you're anywhere close to Trouler's level of closeness to mama's heart? I mean, for the first week that she knew you she was constantly bothered by you and your friends."

"I was just trying to get to know her!" Alisa argued. "Plus, she didn't even say that she was upset by that, and we even had a nice talk about my idol after school at the end of that week."

"Just because she didn't say that she was bothered doesn't mean that she wasn't bothered."

"Can you two please just shut up for two seconds? We're still looking for Trouler and all y'all are out here doing is fightin' and it's makin' this harder for me!" Kent shouted at his two irritating younger siblings making them get quiet in an instant. He had done that a lot ever since he'd met these two.

He didn't even like to yell but with these two he felt like he had to. "Now look, it's highly unlikely that we'll find the Djinns just walking down the street but we've already checked every hidden safehouse that I know of in the city. This is all we have left, so I would appreciate it if you would take this seriously for once!"

Eric and Alisa nodded to their fake older brother who was currently feeling like a real older brother. "That's good." Kent let out a heavy sigh.

'Look at me telling those two to not stop looking when I'm so tired of finding nothing that I'm barely looking. Maan, I'm such a hypocrite.' Kent mentally chastised himself before scanning the street in front of them.

There were people.

Of course there were people they were in the middle of the district's most popular areas! There were bound to be people! Though, Kent had to admit that some of these people seemed pretty off. There was a man walking around with a knapsack that was twice his body size and leaking several strange constructs.

There was another group of people that all had on sunhats and sandals but were fully kitted in knights armor everywhere else on their bodies.

Don't get me started on the freakishly tall goblin and the slightly slimy looking lizardman arguing about pots in the middle of the rode.

"It's pot calling the kettle black, Leroy! What if the kettle called the pot steel?"

"Then it wouldn't make sense because not all pots are made of steel, Joana! Why are you taking this so seriously anyway!?"

"I'm taking this seriously because that was the third time today that you've called me a tall freak and I'm sick of it!"

"You're literally massive for a goblin! It's one of your defining character traits! What's wrong with me pointing that out?!"

"You're tall for a lizard too! So you don't get to insult me!"

"How was that an insult?!"

...

"Wait a second, is that them?" Kent pointed to the two people yelling before them so that the other two could confirm.

"Seems like it."

"That's how mom described two of the members at least. Loud and bitchy, especially to each other." All three of them grunted slightly agreeing with Alix's description.

"Well, let's go see if we can't get some information out of-"

"Screw this! I'm going back to the inn! You always ruin our dates!"

"Fine, you're the one that decided to go on this date in the first place while I wanted to go with Karic to the client! Good luck finding your way back to the Auger Inn on your own! Your sense of direction is terrible for a walking watchtower!"

...

"Nevermind, let's just go to the inn." The siblings turned and walked away while strange couple continued fighting.

By the way who knew that those two were a couple?
