Chapter 44 - Virtual Driver

Joy Bowl, Arcade

(Thomas, Timmy, Mark, and Freddie)

Thomas: We have a week off for final exams and before we study there is only one way to spend time.

Timmy: By using highly advanced entertainment systems.

Thomas: Yes bro, video games. Julie got knew once.

Mark: Awesome.

Freddie: Enjoy wasting your time on these things guys, I'm going to do something real.

Thomas: Come on Freddie I'm sure that's the game in here you're good at.

(A bunch of people gathering a game)

Mark: What game is that game?

Freddie: That's not any game that is a racing simulator.

Thomas: What's that?

Timmy: I heard it is supposed to mimic the life of a racer. From picking the right parts of the car, using the right fuel, and dealing with the speeds of a race car.

Freddie: I heard teenagers who want to race practice on them.

Thomas: Sounds cool, I want to play.

Timmy: It's a really difficult brother plus the line is really long.

Thomas: Whatever I was planning doing virtual laser tag with Mark anyway.

Timmy: I'm going to try a puzzle game.

Freddie: I'll see you later.

(Thomas, Mark, and Timmy walk away)

(Freddie staring at the racing simulator)

(Hour later)

(Thomas, Mark, and Timmy gather)

Mark: The laser tag was fun.

Thomas: How did you do with the puzzle.

Timmy: I spent the same time in it as a regular puzzle, 8 minutes.

(Three of them see people gathering around the racing simulator)

Thomas: I wonder who's trying to beat that game now.

(Three of see Freddie winning at the game)

Mark: Freddie!

Freddie: Hey guys didn't see you there.

Thomas: I thought you didn't want to play a game here.

Freddie: I decided to try this out.

Timmy: How did you get so good at it?

Freddie: You know I work in an auto shop for most of my life and racers need mechanics like me. So it was that hard.

Timmy: That is a major understatement.

Mark: Yay you kick butt.

Thomas: Don't you mean bumper (laughs).

Freddie: It feels pretty good to win a video game for once.

Timmy: Well we spent enough time here. It's going to get dark soon and we have to get up early to study for an exam.

(All four them walking away)

(Freddie looking back at the game)

(Next day)

Lee Home, Living Room

(Thomas and Timmy sitting down with books)

(Mark walks in)

Timmy: Mark, you and Freddie were supposed to be here an hour ago.

Thomas: Yay we have to be book worms not slow slugs (laughs).

Mark: Tell that to Freddie he never picked me up. I had to walk here.

Timmy: Where could he be?

Thomas: I might have an idea.

Joy Bowl, Arcade

(Thomas, Timmy, and Mark watching Freddie on the racer simulator)

Freddie: Yes, a new high score.

Thomas: Earth to Freddie.

Freddie: Hey guys, what are you doing here?

Mark: We should be asking that, you suppose to pick me up.

Freddie: Sorry guys I forgot. I wanted to try to get another high score on this thing, which I did.

Timmy: Freddie, we have to study enough for our final exams.

Mark: Plus you are the only one who's good at that thing.

(A teenager wearing a racer helmet and adult man walks in)

Ken: Are you the one who broke the high school on this racing simulator?

Freddie: Yes' who's asking.

Ken: I'm the head of the engineering team of top racer in the world. This is Abb the child of said racer. Abb is trying to be a racer and had the top score on this simulator until you broke it.

Freddie: Well sorry dude maybe try laser tag instead.

Ken: You don't understand you both are tied on the simulator and to break this tie you both have to play against each other.

Thomas: Wow you going too fast (laughs), pun not intended.

Mark: Yay, the four of us have something important to study for, right Freddie.

Freddie: Anytime.

Ken: How about this Friday, 4:00 pm.

Timmy: Right after our exams.

Freddie: Deal, let the best racer win.

(Freddie and Ab star at each other)

(Ken and Ab leaves)

Timmy: Freddie, you're not really going to waste your time studying for our final exams to try to beat this guy.

Freddie: Of course not.

Mark: Finally you're thinking.

Freddie: I will beat him.

Thomas: His driving me crazy (laughs), I wasn't trying on these puns.

(Next morning )

(Freddie waking up in floor of the arcade)

(Freddie seeing Thomas, Mark, and Timmy standing over him)

Freddie: What happened?

Thomas: Julie called and told me you played the simulator all night and fall on the floor.

Timmy: She also mentioned you broke in. You are very lucky she's nice.

Mark: Freddie this insane you're going to fail exams and probably won't go to good college because of a game.

Freddie: Is not about the game.

Thomas: Then what's it about?

Freddie: Is about me being good at something I'm bad at.

Timmy: What do you mean?

Freddie: I know video games aren't really but being really bad on virtual things feels just as bad in real life things.

Mark: We didn't know we felt so bad about losing all the time.

Freddie: Is not like I hate playing with you guys but when you finally win for once you won't to keep winning so you can prove to yourself you're not a loser.

Timmy: Freddie is inaccurate to call yourself a loser just because you are bad at one or two things. There are a million things in the world to do, that you are good or bad at it.

Thomas: Yay I couldn't catch or throw until I was 15.

Mark: I can't whistle.

Timmy: I can't hold my breath and jump at the same time.

(All of them look at Timmy)

Timmy: I like to do random physical activity to figure out what I can do.

Mark: You are great at a lot of things but if you fail these exams this will have a real effect on your life.

Freddie: You guys are right I have lost my life. Will you help me study for these exams?

Thomas: We're friends aren't we.

Joy Bowl, Arcade

(Freddie getting ready for his virtual race)

Timmy: Ok Freddie you passed your exams.

Thomas: Now is time to take a virtual test.

Freddie: Thanks again guys. Let's do this.

(Freddie and Abb getting ready)

(Freddie and Abb start the virtual race)

(Freddie in the lead)

(Ab comes from behind and takes first place)

(Ab takes the high score)

Mark: Sorry dude.

Freddie: Is fine you guys reminded me not being the best doesn't make you the worst.

Thomas: Especially when you are second best.

Freddie: Hey good game Abb, you good racer.

(Abb takes of the helmet and reveals her face)

Abby: My friends call me Abby.

(All three of them surprised)

(Freddie blushes)

Freddie: Didn't expect that.

Abby: I didn't expect you to be so good. Especially on finding the right parts to put in your car.

Freddie: Well I'm kind of a mechanic.

Abby: My father is having internships for his engineering crew, I put a good word in for you.

Freddie: You're amazing, I mean the job is amazing.

(Abby winks at Freddie and walks away).

Thomas: Is that prize for second place then more people should be happy being there.
