Tears streamed down Jaxen's cheeks.
His quiet, broken sobs filled the cold hospital room. Lav lay motionless, oxygen mask in place, breathing steady—unaware that he was still alive, or that he had found her. "Why would they lie to me? How did you end up here?" he whispered, voice cracking.
He reached for her hand and gripped it as if they were glued together. His lips trembled; grief made him small and raw.
The sliding door opened before he noticed. "What are you doing here?" A familiar voice cut through the haze, and Jaxen's head snapped up. Vio stood in the doorway, his expression closed and stormy. "Why is she in this state?" Jaxen asked, though the question sounded hollow.
Vio's eyes flared.
"You put her in that condition"
The hiss in his tone carried more accusation than logic. For a stunned second Jaxen couldn't make sense of it. "What do you mean?" Vio stepped closer and sat across from him, fury tight in his gaze. "Do you not understand what you caused?"
