Chicago, Cassell Academy.
Leaving Schneider's strategy meeting room, everyone was in a bad mood.
Especially Xia Mi, whose mood was even worse. After witnessing the tragic scene of her former kind being devoured and their bones and blood consumed, even though they were enemies, she couldn't help but feel a sense of sorrow, as if a rabbit had died and a fox had mourned.
Caesar and Nono exchanged a glance, as if they shared a silent understanding, and simultaneously said, "We have something to do, we'll head out first."
Then, they dragged the bewildered Lu Mingfei out, leaving only Xia Mi and Chu Zihang behind.
Chu Zihang sighed heavily, his hand on his forehead. He understood why they left like that—they were probably trying to give him and Xia Mi some space.
It also made sense because he had a lot of questions he wanted to ask Xia Mi in person. But the way they did it was too obvious!
Turning to look at the downcast Xia Mi, the usually calm Chu Zihang suddenly felt a little anxious for reasons he couldn't explain.
"How about… we talk for a bit?"
After a long pause, Chu Zihang finally said the words.
Xia Mi, seeing his helpless expression, couldn't help but chuckle, and her gloomy mood lifted a little.
"Ahem, if you don't want to, never mind," Chu Zihang quickly added.
Luckily, ever since his current appearance, no one could see his expression, or else his face would definitely be flushed with embarrassment.
"Alright."
Xia Mi lifted a lock of hair from her temple, surrounded by the fluttering petals on the campus.
In that peaceful moment, with a playful and cute face like an elf, her lips curled into a perfect smile, a smile like the gentle warmth of spring, instantly melting into Chu Zihang's heart.
Chu Zihang's emotions stirred, and his mind flashed with a memory.
On a rainy day, he walked along a waterlogged street, and a fair arm stretched out, holding a transparent umbrella above him.
The quirky girl, lively and playful, skipped along the side of the road, exuding youthful energy, occasionally lowering her head and chatting away.
At that moment, he didn't hear clearly what the girl was saying, but only smelled a faint fragrance.
"Hey, what are you spacing out for?"
Xia Mi stretched out a hand and waved it in front of Chu Zihang's face, frowning and saying, "Did you even hear what I said?"
The pale, jade-like hand passed by his face, leaving behind a familiar scent, pulling Chu Zihang back from his thoughts and into reality.
"Sorry, something just suddenly popped into my head."
Chu Zihang showed an apologetic expression and said, "Could you repeat that?"
"Forget it, I won't hold it against you." Xia Mi crossed her arms and stared at Chu Zihang, saying, "Come with me, and don't space out again!"
"Oh."
Chu Zihang acted very obedient, following behind Xia Mi.
They walked for a long time, remaining silent the entire way, until they finally reached the top of a mountain near the academy. Xia Mi then found a spot with a clear view and plopped down onto the grass.
"I'm exhausted, should've just borrowed a car." The girl complained, tapping her slim legs.
Chu Zihang silently sat down next to her. By now, the sky had fully darkened, and countless stars hung in the night sky, the scenery quite beautiful.
"Ask away~"
Xia Mi curled her legs, crossing her arms, gazing at the starry sky, and said softly, "I know you have a lot of questions for me, but don't rush. I'll tell you everything you need to know."
Chu Zihang thought of the first question. He turned and looked at Xia Mi seriously: "Did we... know each other before?"
Xia Mi fell into a brief silence, then nodded slightly and said, "Yes, at Shilan High School, not only did we know each other, but we were also friends."
"Then why don't I remember?" Chu Zihang stared at her intently, a strange look in his eyes.
"Because... I deleted that part of your memory."
Xia Mi's gaze grew complicated, unwilling to look at Chu Zihang. She buried her head in her knees and murmured in a muffled voice, "I didn't want you to remember those days."
"Why?"
Chu Zihang was taken aback for a moment, frowning, feeling confused.
"Pass! Next question!"
However, Xia Mi shook her head, crossed her arms, and made a big 'X', pouting as she said, "I refuse to answer this question. Next, next!"
Chu Zihang, rejected once again, was left with a head full of question marks.
But soon, he pulled himself together and asked, "Are you really the Dragon King?"
"Of course! No fake, the real Dragon King!"
At the mention of this, Xia Mi proudly patted her flat chest, wearing a confident smile. "I, the king of earth and mountains, Jormungandr!"
Looking at Xia Mi's proud expression, Chu Zihang couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth. Was it really okay to shout like that?
What if a Cassel student nearby overheard?
The forum would explode the next day!
"Aren't Dragon Kings twins?" Chu Zihang asked.
"Yeah, so what?" Xia Mi replied.
"No, I'm just curious. I haven't seen anyone else around you," Chu Zihang said.
"My brother is a bit slow mentally, kind of like a child. He's always stayed in Nibelungen and never comes out," Xia Mi's mood suddenly dropped.
When she thought about her brother, she wondered, if she died this time, who would take care of him?
Chu Zihang looked at the downcast girl, feeling sorry. "Maybe you should talk to the principal. He should be able to help."
"I once thought that if I died, I'd just seal Nibelungen forever."
Xia Mi stared blankly at the stars, radiating a sense of loneliness, and whispered, "I don't need him to avenge me. I'm fine living alone like that."
"I think you don't need to be so pessimistic," Chu Zihang said after thinking for a moment. "Since the principal chose to let you go, he must have a way to deal with it."
"Hey, Chu Zihang…"
Xia Mi suddenly turned around, her bright eyes seemed to contain deep emotion as she stared at Chu Zihang.
"If one day, someone forces you to kill me, what would you do?"
Chu Zihang froze, his mouth opened as if to speak, but he couldn't find the right words.
In his mind, it felt as though two little figures were arguing, one shouting "Don't kill!" while the other shouted "You must kill!"
"Forget it, I was just joking."
Xia Mi's eyes dimmed slightly before quickly returning to her playful, mischievous self. She made a funny face and added, "Don't mind me, I'm just messing around~"
Then, the girl stood up from the grass, brushed off the dirt and sand from her bottom, and said, "Let's go, it's getting late."
Watching the girl's back as she walked away, Chu Zihang's gaze lowered slightly, almost as if talking to himself. He whispered, "I won't kill you."
Xia Mi's steps faltered for a brief moment, but she quickly regained her composure.
However, her footsteps seemed lighter than before.
