Lu Xiaoyou sat on the bed, picking her nails, when she heard urgent panting coming from beyond the headboard, just a wall away.
A woman's sharp voice called out particularly loudly, like crashing waves, rising and falling with rhythm.

A white hamster squeezed through the gaps of the vent's grille, one of its feet emerged first, but its belly got stuck in the gap.
The foot that crossed the grille was dangling in the air, unable to gain any leverage.
The white hamster took a deep breath, tucked in its belly, and then pressed it with its tiny paw, finally its belly slipped through the grille with a "thud," flopping out.
