Chapter 55 - Battle of New York II

Loki stood atop Stark Tower, the wind whipping through his green and gold cape as he surveyed the chaos below.

His smirk widened as he watched the Chitauri pour through the portal, their war cries echoing through the city.

Smoke and fire rose from the streets as explosions tore through buildings. The once-bustling metropolis was now a battlefield, exactly as he had envisioned.

He extended his arms theatrically, reveling in the destruction. "Look at them, scurrying like ants," he muttered to himself before amplifying his voice. "You call yourselves heroes, yet you are powerless against the inevitable! The world will fall, and I—Loki, rightful ruler of Asgard—shall reign supreme!"

Down below, the battle was intensifying. The Chitauri had begun spreading across the city, firing plasma blasts into buildings and vehicles.

People screamed as they ran for cover, some barely escaping as hovercrafts swooped down on them.

Several police officers attempted to hold their ground, returning fire with their standard-issue weapons—useless against the alien invaders.

High above the battlefield, Tony Stark analyzed the situation in real-time, his advanced heads-up display feeding him information on every sector of the city.

The Iron Legion was doing its best to contain the enemy forces, but civilians were still in grave danger. He needed to act fast.

"M.A.R..V.E.L., initiate the Lifesaver protocol," Tony commanded.

"Activating now, sir," the AI responded smoothly.

From one of Stark's hidden facilities, a new fleet of drones shot into the sky. Unlike the Iron Legion, these were smaller, more agile, and packed with emergency response technology.

Each unit carried hundreds of nanobots—tiny, intelligent machines designed to detect and protect human lives.

As they reached the battlefield, the nanobots dispersed, targeting civilians in immediate danger.

Upon contact, they expanded into thin, form-fitting bodysuits, shielding people from further harm.

The suits not only absorbed energy blasts but also contained nanomedicine that automatically sealed wounds and administered emergency first aid.

"Come on, come on," Tony muttered, watching as one of the Lifesaver suits wrapped around a wounded mother and her child, lifting them gently toward a safe extraction point.

He exhaled. "Only a hundred at a time… not enough."

Despite their efficiency, the system had its limits. He had only produced a limited number of suits, and there were far more than a hundred people who needed help.

One hundred at a time.

But still, Tony wasn't ready for the magnitude of the danger present.

His jaw tightened. 'I'll have to fix that—after we survive today.'

Meanwhile, on the ground, Steve Rogers had taken command of the rest of the team. His voice was calm but firm, cutting through the chaos as he directed the fight.

"Clint, take the high ground and cover the streets! Pick off any Chitauri that break past the main line!"

Hawkeye gave him a nod and sprinted toward a nearby building, grappling up to a rooftop in seconds. His keen eyes immediately locked onto targets, and within moments, arrows rained down on the invading forces.

"Natasha, Shang-Chi, keep the civilians moving toward safety! Secure any routes that aren't compromised!"

"On it," Black Widow responded, already flipping over a Chitauri soldier and slamming an electrified baton into its neck.

Shang-Chi, wielding the Ten Rings, sent a powerful energy wave that cleared an entire street of enemies before turning to guide a group of civilians down an alley.

"Sam, keep air support steady! Keep those hovercrafts off our backs!"

Falcon soared overhead, his wings slicing through the air. "Got it, Cap!"

He unleashed a barrage of missiles, forcing several enemy crafts to swerve before they crashed into nearby buildings.

"Daredevil, Iron Fist, hold the line at Times Square! Make sure they don't get past that point!"

The two martial artists nodded, taking up defensive stances as a new wave of Chitauri charged toward them.

Steve's eyes flicked toward Bruce Banner, who was keeping his distance for now, his hands clenched into fists as he struggled to maintain control.

"Bruce—when you're ready."

Bruce nodded, breathing heavily. "Just… gimme a sec."

The battlefield was a mess, but under Steve's leadership, the team was holding their own.

Above them, Tony was about to unleash his full potential.

He clenched his fists, feeling the raw power coursing through him. The Infinity Suit was unlike anything he had ever built. It responded to his very thoughts, amplifying his speed, strength, and reflexes beyond anything he had previously imagined.

'Let's test this thing out.'

With a burst of energy, he propelled himself forward, aiming straight for one of the larger Chitauri ships. Instead of dodging or firing repulsors, he crashed directly into it.

The ship crumpled under the force of impact. Tony barely felt it.

'Holy—yeah, this is definitely working.'

With one swift motion, he grabbed hold of the ship's exterior and tore it apart with his bare hands. The Chitauri pilots inside barely had time to react before Tony yanked them out and tossed them aside.

He turned back toward the Avengers, a smirk on his face. "Guys, I think I just became a walking nuke."

"Don't get cocky, Stark!" Steve called back, but even he sounded impressed.

Tony chuckled. Then, as if remembering something, he activated his comms.

"Oh, right! Almost forgot. Guys—tap your wrists."

The Avengers exchanged glances before following his instructions. Each of them had received a small, inconspicuous watch earlier, a parting gift from Stark that they hadn't had the chance to question.

As they pressed the devices, their eyes widened in shock.

Their outfits morphed instantly, transforming into sleek, high-tech versions of their original suits. The nanotech adjusted to their forms, enhancing their armor and weapons while maintaining the familiar feel of their classic attire.

"Whoa," Shang-Chi muttered, flexing his fingers as the suit seamlessly integrated with the Ten Rings.

Hawkeye inspected his bow, noticing the energy enhancements embedded in it. "Okay, I gotta admit… this is pretty sweet."

Natasha smirked, adjusting her gloves. "Not bad, Stark."

Steve rolled his shoulders, getting used to the weight of his newly reinforced shield. "You've been busy."

Tony grinned. "Told you I had gifts. Welcome to the future, folks."

A deep, rumbling growl interrupted them.

They all turned to see the Hulk, standing at the edge of the battlefield. His massive frame trembled with pent-up rage, his breathing heavy as he glared at the destruction around him.

Tony winced. "Uh… Hulk? So, funny story—I didn't exactly finish yours yet."

Hulk's response was immediate. He let out a deafening roar, shaking the ground beneath them.

Tony quickly backed up. "Okay, okay, fair! My bad! I'll get you one later!"

Hulk wasn't listening. With a thunderous leap, he launched himself into the fight, smashing through an entire squad of Chitauri with a single swing.

Tony exhaled. "Yeah… definitely dodged a bullet there."

With the Avengers now fully equipped and the battle raging on, they prepared to turn the tide.

The invasion wasn't over yet—but for the first time since the fight had begun, the heroes had the upper hand.
