Magnus's POV
.
"I am finally here…" I muttered attracting the attention of other students. I ignored them in favour looking at the Accession Hall. It was probably the single most important building inside the Royal Academy.
It has one purpose and one purpose only which is to help cultivators in their accession.
Ascending to Tier-1 is very easy at least in context but in reality it is very hard. Despite many having met all the conditions most fail the first time because of having no prior experience. No matter how many times they went over the process or how many people recited them their experience. Doing by themselves is different.
The process of Ascending to Tier-1 is very straightforward. All the cultivators have to do is consume an alchemical pill that increases their control over their vitality and then guide their vitality through their Spiritual Entrances into their Spiritual Veins which naturally convert any energy into spiritual essence.
After all the vitality is converted. Ascending Cultivators need to consume another pill that increases their spiritual essence sensitivity and control so they can guide it to their Dantian where their Spiritual Sea is located.
That exact moment decides their future, and how high they will go in the desolate path of cultivation.
The first time spiritual essence enters their Spiritual Sea it starts to expand. The more it expands before entering Tier-1 the better it is because that became their starting base. After every sub-tier, the spiritual sea expands by 10 percent though there are exceptions to this as higher talent increases that percentage. One can also use better resources to compensate for the talent.
Now all that sounded easy… take the pill, guide the vitality to the Spiritual Veins then take another pill to guide the converted spiritual essence into the Dantian.
Easy peasy… but! Giant BUT!
It is easier said than done. First of all the pills only increase your control and sensitivity of vitality and Spiritual Essence by a small amount. If one didn't have some control from the beginning the increase from the pill wouldn't be nearly enough to complete the procedure before the effects of the pills run out. Once the pills' effects run out it will become even harder to control and guide the energy making it dispersed and eventually run out of said energy.
The second difficulty that comes is exhaustion. The so-called vital energy is just the mixture of stamina and life force. So when used all to convert into spiritual essence an exhaustion like never took over the cultivator making every step after that impossibly difficult.
If the cultivator gives in to the exhaustion all the vitality converted into the spiritual essence would disperse. And this is also the biggest drawback of failing the promotion. The stamina recovers after resting a bit but the life force does not recover easily after you fail. It consumes lifespan to recover.
And if one continues to fail it will keep consuming their lifespan to recover to the point of having no lifespan to consume.
But all is well as long as one succeeds in becoming a Tier-1 because it recovers all the lifespan and further increases it by a few decades.
Although failing the Accession sounds bad no one can resist the allure of success and power that comes with it. And there are also many resources that can reduce the chances of failure and one such resource is located under the Accession Hall.
The Accession Hall is built upon a small pond that produces a special kind of mist that calms and soothes the soul and body. Being in a calm state during the Accession is one of the most important things outside the talent and resources. Whether through willpower or other means. It helps in calming the spiritual essence or vitality making it easier to control. It can also help one overcome small bottlenecks.
So the Accession Hall is not only useful for Tier-0 but also Tier-1 and 2. Although It loses its effect on Tier-3 otherwise it would have been a national treasure.
"What are you dallying for? Let's enter." Axel the only person with Empyrean level talent beside me said. After Elaine went to the Bloodline Awakening Ceremony and never returned Axel and I became good friends.
He is a good kid who cared a lot about friends and family.
The first I met him he pushed everyone away because he was scared of becoming their friends only to outlive them.
A very immature thinking but considering he lost his mother just after opening his Spirituality a term used for opening Spiritual Entrances I can understand why he's scared of losing other loved ones. Being smarter doesn't give him maturity or experience.
"Yeah… let's go."
Without wasting more time Axel and I alongside other students who had made prior reservations entered.
The first thing we noticed was the giant room with many people running around— students and non-students. The Accession Halls are open to not only students but to all who are willing to pay. That is the reason it is the most important building of the Royal Academy. It generates a large chunk of its wealth and resources.
Ignoring the large variety of people Axel and I approached the rows of rows of counters where beautiful receptionists were standing on each. Some of the counter was occupied some were not.
We approached one not occupied. The beautiful brunette greeted us with a smile and politely asked for our business. We told her of our reservations and she nodded her head before checking the ball-like object.
"Ahh! Yes! There is your reservation. Magnus and Axel Ashwind both have booked a Tier-1 Accession room." She nodded once again before handing us both keys with the room number written on them.
"Please head to the first floor and find the room written on your key."
We thanked the receptionist and moved towards the staircase.
It did not take long for us to find our rooms. Wishing each other good luck we entered our rooms respectively.
I immediately felt a calming and soothing feeling overcome me as I inhaled the mist inside the room. It's as if all my pain, worry and stress got washed away from my soul and body like it did whenever my mother oiled my head.
Scanning the misty room once I approached the small bed at the centre and sat cross-legged on it.

"Sigh~ A lot has changed in these five years…Five years that I have lived in this world." Sometimes I still think all this is a dream… waiting for one day to just wake up to my father's angry face for getting up late for work.
"Sigh~"
Looking at the status screen again I can't help but feel complicated. This is the result of my hard work and dedication for five years.
Countless battles with Tier-1 primeval beasts, many times escaping death from running into special Tier-1 primeval beasts or Tier-2 beasts.
But all that was worth it looking at my constitution and spirit hitting 100 each.
I look at the massive SEV that has piled up. I can increase both my stats further with it but every time I try to think of doing so I feel an extreme level of threat.
After trying and failing many times to put more SEV in any stats the system sent me another memory like it did when it bonded with me five years ago.
