Chapter 44 - Reveal of messenger ways

The night had drained me, yet it had also elevated the Dragon Queen into Dragon Emperor. With her ascension, I now held sway over dragons themselves. My mind turned to the strange ability of my black-violet cloth—Random Future Vision—and how best to wield it.

I left a letter for my companions, explaining I had gone ahead at dawn.

At the Fairy Castle

Disguised in Witch King class, fake wings hidden in my Infinite Ring, I approached the guards.

"I am a messenger from the Elf Realm," I declared. "I bring word of succession and peace talks."

The guards debated, then allowed me entry.

In the hall, I spoke before the Fairy King. "I come on behalf of the Elf King, to discuss peace and succession."

The King frowned. "You wear black. Messengers wear white, to show neutrality. And you speak without the password."

I replied smoothly, "My white robes were ruined in the smog swamp. Stains cannot be removed. As for the password—the former king is dead. It was not passed down."

The King pressed, "But the minister lives."

I stalled, then secretly commanded my minion to ask the Elf Minister. The answer came: 'Password.'

I repeated it. The King nodded. "Then I believe you. Rest in the guest room."

But then the Fairy Princess entered. My Random Future Vision flared.

"Do not trust him, father," she said. "He lies."

The King's eyes narrowed. "My daughter has the Truth Eye. Lies cannot escape her."

I was seized, thrown into the Jail of Darkness, roots absorbing all light.

The King interrogated me. "Your origin? Your aim? Who sent you?"

I answered calmly, "I am of the Elf Realm. I came only as messenger, under the order of the Elf King."

The Princess gasped. His words rang true. Confusion clouded her.

She thought silently: My ability does more than reveal lies. It can exchange them with truth. If I reveal this, uproar will follow. Better to remain silent. He fooled me with fragments of lies and truths.

I exhaled. That was close. But thanks to Random Future Vision, I read my own hand signs and spoke accordingly. Without it, I would have been exposed.

Thus, Dransart survives the Fairy King's trial of lies, shielded by his cloth's mysterious ability. The Fairy Princess doubts her own power, and the path to saving the realm grows ever more tangled.
