The movie began when In the year 2029, the artificial intelligence system Skynet, which triggered a nuclear apocalypse, sends two terminators back in time. The other is a more advanced T-1000 (Robert Patrick), with liquid metal construction, sent to kill John.

In 1995, the T-800 arrives in Los Angeles and locates John, who is living with foster parents as his mother, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), is in a mental institution after attempting to blow up a computer factory. Meanwhile, the T-1000 assumes the form of a police officer and begins hunting John.

The T-800 rescues John and explains that they must prevent Skynet's creation by destroying Cyberdyne Systems, the company responsible for its development. They also need to save Sarah, who has been planning to kill Miles Dyson (Joe Morton), a Cyberdyne engineer crucial to Skynet's creation.

Sarah initially distrusts the T-800, but they eventually team up. Together, they break Sarah out of the mental hospital, and she joins them in their mission to stop Judgment Day.

They confront Dyson, and after explaining the consequences of his work, they destroy Cyberdyne's research. However, the T-800's arm and CPU survive, providing potential future technology.

As they attempt to destroy the remaining evidence, they are pursued by the relentless T-1000. In a thrilling chase, they manage to outsmart and defeat it.

In a poignant moment, the T-800, having learned the value of human life, chooses to destroy itself to prevent any further use of its technology. Sarah and John lower it into molten metal, bidding it farewell.

The movie ends with a hopeful future, as Sarah records a message for John, expressing her optimism for a better tomorrow, free from the threat of Skynet.
