Chapter 2 - Roan Acacius

As griffin descended the stranger walked through the dense forest, the crunch of leaves and twigs beneath his feet served as a stark reminder of the desolate world he now found himself in. His eyes, once bright and full of life, had dimmed, weighed down by the crushing weight of his own memories.

The cryptic message, scrawled on a tattered piece of parchment, had been the catalyst for the chain reaction that had led him down this dark path. The words, etched in a code he had yet to decipher, seemed to sear themselves into his brain, haunting him with every step.

It was as if the message had awakened a part of him, a part he had long suppressed. The memories, once locked away, now flooded his mind, threatening to consume him whole.

He recalled the laboratory, the cold, sterile smell of disinfectant and the eerie glow of fluorescent lights. The sound of screams, the cries of children, still echoed in his mind, a constant reminder of the horrors he had endured.

They had called him "Subject 17," a nameless, faceless entity, a mere test subject for their twisted experiments. The scientists, with their clipboards and their detached gazes, had poked and prodded him, searching for the perfect specimen.

And then, there was the insect, a strange, hybrid creature, implanted into his body. He remembered the searing pain, the feeling of his skin crawling, as the creature burrowed deeper into his flesh.

But he had escaped, fleeing the laboratory, leaving behind the children, the other test subjects, who had suffered alongside him. The weight of his guilt threatened to crush him, as he wondered if he had abandoned them to their fate.

As the stranger walked, the memories swirled around him, a maelstrom of pain and regret. He stumbled, his legs giving way beneath him, as the world around him began to blur.

And then, everything went black.

When he came to, he found himself in a strange, opulent bedchamber. A noble girl, with piercing blue eyes and raven-black hair, stood over him, a look of concern etched on her face.

"Who are you?" the stranger croaked, his voice barely above a whisper.

The girl smiled, her eyes sparkling with kindness. "My name is Lady Sophina," she said. "And you, sir, are a mystery. I found you unconscious in the depths of the forest. I brought you back to my mansion, hoping to nurse you back to health."

The stranger's gaze wandered around the room, taking in the lavish furnishings, the intricate tapestries. He felt out of place, a stranger in a strange land.

But as he looked at Lady Sophina, he saw something there, something that gave him hope. Maybe, just maybe, he had found a way out of the darkness, a chance to start anew.

"Thank you," the stranger said, his voice filled with gratitude. "I owe you a debt of thanks."

Lady Sophina smiled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "You owe me nothing, sir," she said. "But I must admit, I am curious. What is your story? How did you come to be in our town?"

The stranger hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But as he looked at Lady Sophina, he saw kindness, compassion, and a deep-seated desire to help.

Maybe, just maybe, he could trust her.

"I'll tell you," the stranger said, his voice barely above a whisper. "But be warned, my story is not for the faint of heart."

As the stranger began to recount his tale, Lady Sophina's expression changed from one of curiosity to one of horror. She listened intently, her eyes wide with shock, as the stranger described the laboratory where he had been held captive.

"They called it 'The Facility,'" the stranger said, his voice barely above a whisper. "It was a place where they conducted twisted experiments on humans. I was one of their test subjects."

Lady Sophina's face paled, and she looked as though she might faint. "What did they do to you?" she asked, her voice trembling.

The stranger's eyes clouded over, and he seemed to retreat into his own private hell. "They collected my blood," he said, his voice flat and emotionless. "They would take it from me every day, sometimes twice a day. They said it was for 'research purposes,' but I knew it was for something more sinister."

Lady Sophia's eyes welled up with tears, and she reached out to take the stranger's hand. "I'm so sorry," she said. "No one deserves to go through that."

The stranger's gaze snapped back into focus, and he looked at Lady Sophina with a hint of surprise. "You don't understand," he said. "That was just the beginning. They would isolate me for days, sometimes weeks, at a time. I would be locked in a small room with no windows, no light, and no sound. They would give me just enough food and water to keep me alive."

Lady Sophina's face contorted in anguish, and she looked as though she might be sick. "And the beatings?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The stranger's eyes flashed with anger, and his jaw clenched in rage. "Yes, the beatings," he spat. "If I refused to follow orders, if I didn't cooperate with their experiments, they would beat me. They would tie me down and whip me until I screamed for mercy."

Lady Sophina's tears flowed freely now, and she sobbed uncontrollably. The stranger's gaze softened, and he looked at her with a hint of compassion. "I'm sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to upset you."

Lady Sophina wiped her tears away and looked at the stranger with a determined expression. "You didn't upset me," she said. "You shared your story with me, and for that, I am grateful. I want to help you, to help you heal from the wounds of your past."

The stranger's gaze searched Lady Sophina's face, looking for any sign of deception or manipulation. But all he saw was kindness, compassion, and a deep-seated desire to help. Maybe, just maybe, he could trust her.

As Lady Sophina continued to comfort the stranger, her maid, Emma, entered the room with a discreet curtsy. "Milady, I apologize for interrupting, but your father, the Duke, has arrived. He requests your presence in the grand hall."

Lady Sophina's expression changed from one of compassion to one of duty. She nodded to Emma and turned to the stranger. "I must attend to my father. Please, rest here and recover from your ordeal. I will return shortly."

The stranger nodded, his eyes never leaving Lady Sophina's face. As she departed, he felt a pang of loneliness, but he was determined to overcome his past and forge a new future.

In the grand hall, Lady Sophina curtsied before her father, the Duke. He was a tall, imposing figure with a strong jaw and piercing blue eyes. His presence commanded respect, and Lady Sophina felt a sense of awe in his presence.

"Father, I apologize for not being present to greet you," Lady Sophina said, her voice formal.

The Duke smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You are forgiven, my dear. I see you have a guest. Who is this young man?"

Lady Sophina gestured to the stranger, who stood behind her. "This is... um... I apologize, but he hasn't told me his name yet. He's been through a terrible ordeal, Father. He was held captive in a laboratory and subjected to horrific experiments."

The Duke's expression darkened, and he nodded gravely. "I see. Well, in that case, he is welcome to stay with us as long as he needs. We will do everything in our power to help him recover from his ordeal."

The stranger stepped forward, his eyes locked on the Duke. "Thank you, Your Grace. I am grateful for your kindness. My name is... was... Subject 17. But I would like to start anew, if I may."

The Duke nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Then let us start anew, indeed".

The stranger after a moment of silence spoke "Aca....My name is Roam Acacius".

A strange face flashed before his eyes as he uttered the name with conviction .

"Very well you shall be known as Sir Acacius, and you will hence be a knight in training in our town's division,so you can fetch income for food ."

Over the next few weeks, Sir Acacius trained tirelessly, honing his fighting skills and learning the ways of chivalry. He proved to be a quick learner, and his natural talent with a sword impressed even the most seasoned knights.

The Duke watched Sir Acacius' progress with great interest, his eyes narrowing as he made a strange phone call one evening. "Yes, it's me. I've found him. The one from the laboratory. He's here, and he's going to be a powerful ally... or a formidable enemy. We'll see."

As the Duke ended the call, a sinister smile spread across his face.
