[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]
Third Person POV
Unknown Place.
...
...
The blade moved quickly, generating enormous cuts as lightning began striking the giant statue's face, but they had no effect.
It resisted the attack.
"Well, if that's how it is...", Severus murmured, changing his strategy.
The statue could no longer fire its flame beam from its eyes with the intruder on its shoulder, in its blind spot.
Severus slowly closed his right hand as a blue aura began swirling around him, concentrating all his power.
"Let's see if this will work...", he said, pulling his arm back and gathering energy, which surprised even the six-winged angel still in the air watching.
In the next moment, Severus unleashed a punch so powerful that it echoed through the entire place, exploding on impact. The creature's face simply shattered, and it was thrown backward, crashing to the ground with the most powerful punch Severus had ever delivered in his life. The creature fell hard, the floor erupting with the impact and the tremor spreading through the entire hall.
BOOOOOOMMMM
At the same time, several statues were still walking toward Severus. He looked at them as if they were nothing now. He saw the giant creature trying to get up and then extended his hand toward all the statues coming at him.
The larger statue's eyes immediately began to glow upon seeing Severus in its line of sight, charging another fire beam to destroy him. The angel raised an eyebrow as he saw Severus about to do something when all his stone puppets began to be affected.
"Can he do that? Levitate all the statues at once?", he asked, intrigued by the power Severus displayed.
Suddenly, all the statues began glowing blue with his telekinesis, now evolved into something called Ruler's Authority. All of them simply started levitating at the same time — something Severus could never have done before his ability evolved. As if pulled by a magnet, they were lifted and flew toward him, and Severus began stacking them on the ground, one after another, forming a massive stone sphere before him, like a compacted mountain to shield him from the giant statue's attack.
"No...", the angel murmured, watching all the statues being hit by the laser beam fired from the giant eyes in the next moment. He didn't even have time to react — everything happened far too fast. The statues started burning one by one as the beam pierced through the stone mountain, heading toward Severus — who vanished with shadow teleportation.
The giant statue began rising again, not seeming to care that it had just destroyed most of its allies, with the angel above it, looking at Severus in frustration. Severus faced his final enemy and simply summoned his wand once more, beginning to create several lightning spheres above the statue — as large as it — and even aiming at the angel himself, who, stunned, recoiled upon seeing them forming above him.
That caught him completely off guard. This was a spell that shouldn't even exist in that world, a spell Severus had tested only when he was in the Demonic Castle — a spell capable of destroying entire cities.
As soon as Severus cast the spell with the charged lightning spheres above the temple, an explosion of lightning burst forth, striking directly at the angel — who was also hit — and at the giant statue itself, which became completely covered in lightning.
Everything exploded around them with a flash so bright it was impossible to look at, while the entire place trembled with the lightning that roared like a dragon and could destroy an entire Muggle city, concentrated only on that single point.
Lightning was something so fast that it could circle the entire planet in half a second; almost nothing could truly match that speed, much less anyone keep up with it. That was why it had become Severus's main element — nothing could escape it.
Severus stood still, waiting for the result of the attack, with the air smoky like a massive cloud as small electrical sparks still ran through the destroyed hall.
For a few seconds, nothing happened… until suddenly something shot out at high speed from within the smoke and lunged directly at Severus. Moving at an absurd velocity, he only had time to raise his arm to defend himself before being hurled backward, flying across the hall and crashing into the wall, which exploded around him. The angel pinned him, using only his hands to keep Severus from escaping, trying to push him even farther.
"I… I don't know what's happening! You shouldn't be this powerful! They assured me you were supposed to fail here so he could take over your body… and you be replaced!", the angel growled through clenched teeth. The system user's power was far beyond what he could handle. It wasn't supposed to be like this. Even with the restrictions and part of his stats locked, Severus was extremely powerful.
"Replaced? So you mean I'm some kind of shell?", Severus mocked.
He was no longer just the fusion of Severus Snape and Morou in that body — he was something more. A shell for something else. Was that what the system wanted? Severus couldn't help but question it.
He began forcing the angel back, making him widen his eyes, outraged as he realized he was losing strength. In mere moments, Severus pushed him, throwing him several meters away. The angel didn't even have time to react — when he lifted his gaze, Severus was already in front of him, fist clenched.
The punch hit his face, beginning to crack it with an impact as strong as the one that toppled the giant statue — perhaps even more devastating. While the giant statue was now nothing but a pile of rocks due to the previous lightning attack.
The angel was hurled violently to the other side of the hall, colliding against one of the wall's pillars, which barely withstood the impact.
"No… it can't be!", the angel roared in anger, and the wings on his back suddenly began turning into hands.
Severus noticed the enemy growing stronger, but nothing impressive if he were honest. But without hearing Severus's thoughts, the angel then pulled out a white staff covered in several blue runes, with a small crystal at the tip that began generating an absurd amount of mana — reaching even Severus's level.
Severus raised an eyebrow as the angel began casting some kind of spell, but he didn't even have time to react: a blur passed by him and the angel's hand was simply cut off when Severus appeared behind him in a flash.
"What…?", said the living statue, looking at his hand on the ground and then back with wide eyes. The staff he had summoned was now in Severus's hand, who examined it closely.
"What is this?… I feel great power coming from it. This is definitely better than the wands of this world," Severus analyzed with interest.
The creature was still stunned, seeing that Severus had taken his weapon. Severus had already stored his wand and dagger, keeping his eyes on the staff with admiration. That would be an extremely useful weapon for him.
"You think you can take my weapon, you bastard?!", the angel growled, lifting his other hand and pointing at the staff. The weapon began trembling slightly. Severus narrowed his eyes: the staff was linked to its owner. He couldn't take it… unless he killed its master, right?
"So be it," Severus murmured, even more interested in the weapon. With it, he could unleash far more power than with any wand. How could he not be interested in such a weapon?
However, before he could think about anything else, the system began beeping.
[> Architect's Staff acquired.]
[> Staff initiating loyalty reassignment.]
[> The staff recognizes you as someone even more powerful than its former master. It will always choose the strongest, the one who can unleash its full potential.]
[> You are now bound to the staff.]
Severus smiled as he saw the notifications.
"So you always stay with the strongest… Well, you wouldn't be very loyal to me since you could choose to bind to someone else… but at least you'll be useful to me for now," he said to himself while gripping the staff, which no longer trembled.
The Architect, still trying to summon the weapon back, wore an expression that — if he were human — would have been pure panic upon realizing the staff was simply denying his call.
"No… this can't be…", he murmured, incredulous.
Severus began testing the weapon, spinning it from side to side before holding it by the shaft and positioning it horizontally at his side, now looking like a true mage, his dark clothes swaying with a mysterious wind and his body glowing as he let the power of magic flow.
"This is great," Severus said before spinning the staff once more at his side and striking it against the ground, producing a thunderous sound that echoed throughout the place like a bell.
The angel narrowed his eyes as stone blocks began joining together. Suddenly, new giants — identical to the ones the angel used as puppets — began to form. More than ten of them.
"This… he's recreating my magic…", the angel murmured, stunned.
That guy had simply learned his spell. No! The Architect had taken a long time to create his own statues — and now Severus produced them with a single movement, using the angel's own staff. Those statues were supposed to be strong enough to destroy any creature in that world. And now Severus was creating ten… without even having his shadows to fight.
He was so shocked that Severus took advantage of the moment. He pointed the staff directly at him, as if he had been used to wielding his new weapon his whole life. The angel had no time to react when a hand began emerging from the ground, grabbing his body and altering the terrain beneath him through transfiguration.
The gigantic hand held him while he looked around angrily, trying to break free. But the hand began to glow, the ground altering its own molecules into something far more powerful than ordinary stone. Suddenly, the hand turned into a type of purple metal that didn't exist in that world, one that even the strongest metal of that world couldn't compare to.
Even Severus looked fascinated. Those were some of the hardest metals in the universe — and he had never managed to transform anything into materials from outside that world, despite trying since the beginning of his lessons with Professor McGonagall. But with the staff, now it was possible.
The creature tried to move, but it was useless — even more so when the newly made giants also began transforming into the same resistant metal as the hand restraining him, advancing toward him.
"This guy…", the angel gritted his teeth. He was trapped.
This person was nothing like what they expected. He was supposed to be weak, supposed to die, supposed to be replaced by Ashborn… by the true Monarch of Shadows.
Severus knew that all the ring heirs had influences on their personalities when using the Monarchs' powers. Knew that they would, soon enough, surpass the original Monarchs… and he also had a bit of that influence, becoming a little darker, more ruthless, but not enough to completely change his personality. Still, he wondered what all of that meant: why had the system created such a challenge? Why not simply replace me, since they can do that?
Severus looked at the trapped angel, intrigued. This guy had influence over his system… but was arrogant and expected him to be weaker?
Could they really not take his body instead of making him go through all of this to get there? Did they need to pressure him? Why give him a system when he could have acquired all that power on his own? He didn't believe the other heirs had received trials nearly this complex. They were merely shells that absorbed the power of the rings — and would soon be consumed, if they hadn't been already. His former companions would cease to exist soon anyway.
"What is all this, who are you…?" Severus approached, stopping before the mysterious creature with a curious look. The angel clenched his teeth — he had been defeated, was immobilized, and would be killed in moments.
"Fine… if you want to know… so be it," he declared. The timer and the challenge no longer mattered now.
Suddenly, the area around Severus began to glow. He tried to create a shield, but he felt his mind being affected instantly, by the system itself.
In the next moment, his consciousness plunged completely into darkness.
