[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]
Third Person POV
Durmstrang Institute.
...
...
"How come he disappeared?!"
The headmistress of Durmstrang Institute was stunned as she entered the room, finally hearing Astrid Bandear's protests after stopping the music they were listening to. She came to see what was going on, finding only the painting with no sign of Snape.
"I'm telling you, Headmistress!! The student simply vanished as soon as he appeared in front of me! He was sucked into my painting!!" she declared.
"What do you mean..." she murmured, quickly moving her wand to use Revelio, detecting nothing but Snape's former presence, but no sign of him now.
"What is happening?! Where is Professor Snape?" Professor Flitwick exclaimed as he entered upon hearing what was going on across the room.
Rosaria came shortly after, looking at the painting a bit cautiously, while watching the woman fall into despair. But she knew very well what had happened — not that she would tell anyone — and remained silent, while Professor Longbotton soon followed Flitwick.
"I don't know what happened... could I have killed such a young and promising student?! I can't believe it!" Astrid Bandear seemed desperate; even with her arrogance, knowing she might have killed someone so quickly made her very nervous.
Chaos quickly erupted in the search for Snape throughout the Durmstrang Institute, shocking all the students of the school along with those from the other schools. The only report was that Snape had entered a painting and disappeared just as he was about to question Astrid Bandear.
"Wait... Didn't that damn Snape enter some paintings at Hogwarts, like what happened at the Gryffindor entrance?" Sirius Black suddenly said, remembering well that he and many students — some of whom were present — had heard Astrid Bandear complaining about a student entering her painting, and everyone had seen Snape come out of it.
Lily was also there and was worried about Snape. She had certainly been watching him the entire tournament, an agonizing gaze thanks to the love potion. She hadn't accepted any invitation to the ball, feeling like accepting would be a betrayal to Snape, and she didn't want him to see her as a woman accessible to other men.
She stood still during the event, not accepting any requests from other students, whether from other classes or even Gryffindor and other houses who were there, trying to gather the courage to talk to Snape and ask for a dance like she did at Slughorn's club. But she wasn't drunk this time, and could only watch Snape dancing with the three girls who always surrounded him.
It sparked a wave of jealousy in Lily, but she couldn't do anything, leaving and returning to her room to cry.
But upon remembering what Sirius was talking about, she nodded, recalling that Snape had come out unscathed while ignoring everyone and their questions, walking out of the Gryffindor entrance as if it were nothing.
"What do you mean by that?!" Flitwick asked, surprised and with a hint of hope.
"We don't know how he can do it, but Snape entered the Gryffindor painting with the Fat Lady complaining about the student. Snape appeared 30 minutes after it happened," Lily commented.
"So he enters paintings at Hogwarts?" Professor Longbotton murmured.
"Wait... that dark wizard who's been terrorizing Britain... isn't he also after paintings?" another student commented from within the crowd of Hogwarts students, while everyone immediately widened their eyes.
"Could—could Snape be the dark wizard everyone is talking about?!" someone said with a stunned and cautious tone.
"Could be... Is it really him?"
The students immediately began gossiping, and even the professors started to look at the situation with furrowed brows.
"Of course not, Severus Snape was at Hogwarts during all the events, that doesn't make any sense. Besides, he hasn't shown any spells similar to what that new Dark Lord used... so it's very unlikely," Professor Flitwick gave his opinion while most students seemed to nod in agreement with his reasoning.
"But what happened to him? Is he okay?" Clarisse asked with concern.
"Of course he is..." Pandora said beside her. "Snape's been entering paintings all over the school for months, he always does that and comes back. Says it's to get stronger..." she commented with a smile, without any worry.
"How do you know that?" Clarisse asked, a little surprised by this information, as they spoke quietly so no one would hear.
"Sev has done it a few times in front of me and always came back a moment later. The paintings also kept complaining about it, or didn't you notice how they started avoiding Snape this year, like they were afraid of him?" she exclaimed, as Clarisse nodded, seeing some reason in her words.
"I think you're right... I hope he's okay..." she murmured.
"The paintings and ghosts are afraid of Snape at Hogwarts...! Some said Snape was entering their frames and would come out a moment later, but none of the portraits liked it," another student said.
"The ghosts started to like him after he went to the ghosts' ball..." another added.
Rosaria remained silent; it was better she said nothing. Even though she wanted to defend Snape, she knew it could bring more suspicion onto him. But she knew he had gone to those places, where those creatures they had faced lived. She knew he was getting stronger that way and would soon return even stronger.
Or so she hoped, because chaos had started while reports and suspicions spread throughout the castle with the disappearance of Severus Snape, as the worst happened.
Snape didn't return in the following days, leaving everyone quite alarmed, while the Durmstrang headmistress found herself in a complicated situation, being responsible for the students when one of them had disappeared.
In the end, the students returned to their countries, having no more reason to stay, while asking if the Hogwarts student had died.
Meanwhile, the professors made a decision to take the students back to Hogwarts while Professor Flitwick stayed behind to try to find Snape, for day after day they searched every corner and every painting with no sign of him.
The students returned to Hogwarts victorious, but none of them celebrated, while Snape's disappearance seemed to make everyone frown, even though he wasn't well liked by all, and most feared him, seeing their champion vanish was something that left everyone stunned.
The school was shocked as it hit the magical newspaper, while questions came from all sides — if Snape had died after being sucked in, if he was the Dark Lord behind the paintings, as rumors began to spread with reports from various witnesses of Snape seeking out paintings and disappearing into some of them during the year.
Fear began to fill the school, Professor McGonagall tried to maintain control, while the false Dumbledore at this point — with him not appearing to duel in the town attacked by Death Eaters led by You-Know-Who before the second Dark Lord appeared — did nothing about it.
Certainly, questions were being raised, if Dumbledore, the greatest wizard of the century, was missing too and they had just put someone there for appearances...
And what if Snape himself killed Headmaster Dumbledore...?
Regulus Black had his own thoughts about it.
Lily was crying, heartbroken.
Clarisse remained worried the entire time—it had been over a week since Snape disappeared.
Even Rosaria seemed to frown, telling herself that Snape wouldn't fall and would appear soon.
Pandora seemed the calmest, though she showed she missed Snape. To her, Snape was fine wherever he was, and that was probably exactly where he wanted to be.
The new Minister of Magic went to Hogwarts demanding explanations, as the champion had simply vanished in front of a painting, blaming incompetence and nearly starting a fight with the Durmstrang Institute and the Swedish Minister of Magic.
In the end, McGonagall had to deliver a rather grim announcement, declaring that Snape might have died, and the Minister insisted it be officially recorded that way.
The school was shocked by this, while some claimed it was a lie.
While all this was happening somewhere else—or rather, in another dimensional space separate from Earth—
A battle continued as the burning buildings of a large city were the only sight in the area, with various creatures running through its streets, all chasing one specific person.
Snape was there, waiting for the horde of creatures trying to kill him—demons.
He ran swiftly, a dagger in one hand and his wand in the other. Here, he didn't need to hold back.
Slashing with the dagger in his left hand, he began moving his wand, and a blue beam shot from it, destroying the entire street with a dragon summoned by his magic, consuming all the demons.
Hundreds were slain as the dragon swept through, devouring everything.
Snape was not out of enemies yet and had to retreat, cutting down more of them with ease until he reached higher ground.
He pointed his wand to the sky.
Dark clouds began to gather across the city, blanketing the flames.
Snape released a bolt of lightning from his wand, changing the very atmosphere as the dark clouds began to crackle with electricity.
He moved his wand downward as he was surrounded on all sides by demons.
In the next moment, colossal lightning bolts rained down from the clouds across that part of the city, destroying everything.
That section became pure chaos, with buildings crumbling and demons vaporizing.
The storm continued for a time, finally stopping as the last of the structures collapsed around him.
There were no more flames—just destruction—while further away, the other districts remained untouched by his spell.
Snape landed on high ground, looking out over the devastation, his gaze falling to his wand.
[You leveled up!]
[You leveled up!]
[You leveled up!]
[You leveled up!]
Four levels at once for destroying part of a city—Snape couldn't help but be surprised, since leveling up had become quite difficult lately.
It indicated that he had killed thousands in a single attack.
"To think my magic is at a level where I can already see myself destroying entire city blocks..." Severus commented, as his power now surpassed 1,000 points.
That was more than half the maximum level humanity had ever reached—by the strongest wizard of the century, Dumbledore.
Who, incidentally, had been defeated by Snape.
He didn't just have magic—his spells were also becoming increasingly powerful, allowing him to execute incantations he once only theorized about, but couldn't cast before due to his magic being too weak compared to his current level.
In any case, Snape heard a piercing sound from one side, and saw a massive demon beginning to walk toward him, coming from one of the unaffected areas.
'Looks like a shadow-type... and not even that strong... must be the boss of this place,' Snape commented as he holstered his wand and drew another dagger.
'Let's do this the old-fashioned way.'
In the next moment, he dashed forward at full speed, weaving through the wreckage before regaining his momentum and charging straight at the enemy, who quickly tried to stop him.
Snape was already on him before it could react, increasing his speed.
In the next moment, he unleashed multiple slashes using his Mutilate skill, and the demon could only snarl in pain—before its head exploded, with Snape appearing on the other side.
It all took no more than four seconds.
[You have slain the Floor 50 Boss: Vulcan! You received the Orb of Avarice]
[You leveled up!]
Snape landed as the headless body crashed into the buildings, crushing them before falling in the middle of the street. Snape kept his eyes on the orb that appeared in his hand the moment after.
"Increase your level and all magical abilities by 100%?"
Snape looked up at it, fully aware of how valuable that was to a wizard like him.
