Berman, Henry, and Gian walked together once more towards the interrogation room to meet Lai Yin.
It wasn't because Berman had anything left to say to Lai Yin, but he wanted to use his display of power over Lai Yin to "reassure" his two allies.
He wanted them to know he wasn't at all afraid of that man named Bai.
After Bai Xiaosheng's perfunctory "warning" and departure, all three were left uncertain. When Berman stopped thinking about it, he noticed his two allies looked uneasy, as if worried about the trouble Bai Xiaosheng might cause them.
Berman thumped his chest and assured them not to worry, that Bai Xiaosheng was merely bluffing, and he hadn't even paid him any mind.
However, it was clear that these words had little effect.
Berman was silent at the worst possible moment, leading Henry and Gian to assume that he, too, had reservations about Bai.
Once this feeling sets in, it's hard to dispel.
