Chapter 151 - Chapter 151: The Circus’s Silent Star

The morning sun filtered gently through the trees as the gang made their way down the familiar dirt path that led toward Pallet Town. It had been a long journey—festivals, fierce battles, legendary encounters—but now, Ash, Misty, Sabrina, Brock, and their Pokémon companions were heading back to where it all began.

Ash walked ahead with a subtle smile playing on his lips, his signature cap pulled low over his eyes. Pikachu rode on his shoulder, as always, tail swaying with each step. Beside them, Eevee bounded through the grass, full of energy. Behind them, Misty and Sabrina chatted quietly while Brock trailed a little behind, lost in thought about the upcoming meeting in Fuchsia City—and the name Lucy echoing in his head.

"Eevee was jumping happily but suddenly stopped by an invisible wall, causing him to bump his head against it."

"Eevee!" it yelped comically, rubbing its forehead.

Ash walked over, curious, and reached out to touch the invisible barrier. His hand met a solid surface in thin air.

On the other side, a wild Mr. Mime stood snickering to itself, expertly conjuring psychic walls and clearly enjoying the chaos it caused.

Ash blinked in surprise as a familiar tone echoed in his mind.

[Ding! Side Quest Received: "Caught the Housekeeper!"]Objective: Capture the mischievous Mr. Mime and assign it as your mother's Pokémon.Reward:Fairy Feather – A held item that boosts the power of Fairy-type moves by 20%.

Ash raised an eyebrow, glancing at Mr. Mime, who had just trapped Eevee in a playful maze of invisible walls.

"Guess you've got a new job coming, Mimey," Ash muttered with a grin.

Ash was just about to command Eevee to battle when, out of nowhere, a speeding bus skidded to a stop between him and Mr. Mime.

"What the—?!" Ash exclaimed, shielding his eyes from the dust cloud.

From the bus emerged a vibrant girl dressed in a flamboyant circus ringmaster outfit—top hat, crimson coat, and a sparkling whip coiled at her side. She flipped dramatically onto the pavement and struck a pose.

"I'm Stella, the Grand Tamer of Spectacle!" she announced with flair. "And that Mr. Mime is mine!"

"I finally found you, Mr. Mime!" she shouted without any warning, tossing a Poké Ball into the air.

Ash's eye twitched. "Hey! I was about to catch that Mr. Mime!"

Mr. Mime, startled by the sudden crowd and chaos, grinned mischievously—and vanished in a blink, phasing through one of its own invisible walls and escaping into the trees.

Ash groaned, visibly irked. Misty crossed her arms, clearly annoyed. Even Sabrina frowned, her gaze narrowing at the retreating figure of Mr. Mime.

Meanwhile, Brock stepped forward, brushing his coat dramatically. "You must be a traveling Trainer… A dazzling beauty with fire in her eyes. My name is Brock, future Pokémon Doctor—and future husband to a lovely rose like you!"

Before the girl could even respond, a small pink egg-shaped blur zoomed in from the side. Togepi, glowing faintly with psychic energy—a trick Sabrina had clearly taught her—casually used her tiny power to toss Brock like a sack of potatoes into a nearby bush.

Sabrina didn't even blink. "Efficiency," she said dryly.

Misty sighed, rubbing her temples. "You'd think he'd learn by now."

Ash shook his head and looked back at the direction Mr. Mime escaped. "Guess we've got some unfinished business."

Stella's confident grin faded as she adjusted her top hat with a sheepish look. "Sorry about that... I got a little carried away. It's just—Mr. Mime's really important to me."

Ash raised an eyebrow. "You mean that one you scared off?"

She nodded, visibly embarrassed. "Yeah... I'm a Pokémon Circus ringmaster. I travel region to region with my troupe. We're scheduled for a big performance here in Pallet Town—it's our first time in Kanto, and the star of the show was supposed to be my Mr. Mime."

Sabrina tilted her head, sensing a bit more beneath the surface. "But something went wrong."

Stella sighed and motioned for them to follow. "Come with me. I'll show you."

They followed her through a forest trail until the path opened into a lively clearing where colorful tents stood tall against the trees. Bright banners waved in the breeze, and the air smelled of popcorn and sawdust. Pokémon performers practiced in the background—Balancing Spinda, juggling Aipom, and even a tightrope-walking Emolga.

But at the center of it all was a somewhat... less-than-enthusiastic performer.

A second Mr. Mime was sprawled out on a reclined lawn chair, sunglasses on, munching on chips. A soda can levitated next to him via Psychic, which he sipped lazily through a straw.

Stella sighed. "That's him. My Mr. Mime. He used to be incredible—his illusions were better than anything I'd ever seen. But lately... he's just stopped trying. He refuses to train. Won't rehearse. Just eats snacks and lounges around like he's retired."

Pikachu and Eevee exchanged glances. Pikachu rolled his eyes. Eevee tilted its head in comedic curiosity.

Ash looked back at Stella. "Did something happen?"

Stella hesitated. "I... might've been a little too harsh during training. I pushed him really hard. I thought he'd appreciate perfection—but I think I pushed him away instead."

Misty folded her arms. "You don't get loyalty from fear. You get it from trust."

Sabrina nodded. "And respect."

Stella looked genuinely remorseful. "I know that now. I just... I want to fix it. And I thought catching a wild Mr. Mime might help me fill the gap for the show. But I guess I really just wanted a second chance with him."

Ash looked over at the lazy Mr. Mime, then back at her with a soft grin. "Maybe it's not too late. Let's see if we can help you reconnect with your partner."

Ash studied the lazy Mr. Mime for a moment, then knelt down to meet its gaze. "Hey, buddy. You don't have to be perfect. Just be you."

The Mr. Mime blinked slowly, as if surprised by the kindness in Ash's voice. Pikachu stepped forward and gave an encouraging "Pika!"

Eevee wagged its tail, while Togepi giggled from Sabrina's arms.

Ash turned to Stella. "I think the best way to get him back is not by forcing him, but by showing him you care. Trust has to be earned."

Stella nodded, wiping a tear from her cheek. "I... I never realized how much pressure I put on him. I just wanted to be the best."

With Ash's encouragement, Stella approached her Mr. Mime gently, speaking softly. The Pokémon's usual playful energy started to stir as the tension melted away.

After a while, the Mr. Mime stood up, stretched, and playfully juggled a few nearby pebbles—an old skill returning.

"Looks like you're ready for the show," Ash smiled.

Stella laughed, a weight lifted from her shoulders. "Thank you, Ash. For reminding me what really matters."

Ash looked toward the trees. "Well, there's still a wild one out there. And I think I still have a Thing to do."

Back in the forest clearing, the wild Mr. Mime stood atop a branch, waiting with a cocky grin.

Ash pointed forward. "Eevee, let's go!"

Eevee leapt into position, eyes locked on the psychic trickster.

"Use Shadow Ball!"

Eevee launched a crackling orb of dark energy. Mr. Mime threw up a Light Screen, but the Shadow Ball shattered it on impact, pushing Mime back.

Mime retaliated with Psychic, lifting rocks from the ground and hurling them.

"Dodge and use Quick Attack!"

Eevee zigzagged through the psychic barrage, slamming into Mr. Mime's chest and knocking it from the branch.

Mr. Mime rebounded and used Reflect, bracing for another attack.

Ash narrowed his eyes. "Let's end this—Double-Edge, full power!"

Eevee glowed white and charged with explosive force, smashing through Reflect and slamming Mr. Mime into a tree trunk.

Dust settled.

Mr. Mime struggled to its knees—then collapsed, fainted.

Ash took a Poké Ball from his belt. "Poké Ball, go!"

It flew, hit, and wobbled…

Once…Twice…Click!

Ash pumped his fist. "Gotcha!"

Ash turned to leave, his friends behind him.

Misty gave Stella a small smile. "Treat him well."

Sabrina glanced at the recovering circus, then at Ash. "Not every quest gives you items. Some give you better people."

Ash nodded, tapping Mr. Mime's Poké Ball with a grin. "Time to go home."

He looked up toward the blue Pallet skies.

"Feels good to be back."
