"Alright children gather around, I think you know what this announcement is going to be" Makarov said as everyone gathered around the Guild hall. Karna and the other S class wizards were standing on the stage as they looked at the expressions of each of their guild members.
Karna was able to sense that every single guild member was present today, including a not so much of a spy Doranbolt who was using his mental magic to manipulate and make everyone think that he was a part of the guild.
Karna laughed slightly earlier during the day when he had sensed the spy while Makarov had an expression of utter defeat. Karna wondered what would happen if he released Doranbolt's memories right now, will he just take it into stride or will he go straight into depression.
But he decided to ignore it for now, as Makarov announced the people selected for the S class quest. Surprisingly it was the same people as the original Tenrou island team including Meredy.
Silva smiled as he looked at Cana who was coming as an invigilator for the S class trials along with the others.
Ur and Gildarts will be the only S class wizards staying back as they had more than enough people to conduct the test on the island.
"All right since you all heard the rules, prepare yourself as well as your partners. This is going to take more than just pure magical might for you to win. The test will check your magical skills, deduction ability and even your luck as all these are required for an S class wizard" Makarov announced as everyone went on their way to celebrate. Some because they got selected and some to remove the dejected feeling of not being selected. Karna watched everything that happened while keeping his senses focussed directly on Doranbolt who was about to ask Wendy to join in as his partner for the S class wizard quest.
Even though Doranbolt was one of them, he was currently a council member as his original memories had not yet been returned. So, there is still a small chance that his teleportation might find the few closely guarded secrets of Fairy tail which he might give to the council before we can reactivate his memories. So, it was better to be cautious about him.
"Hey Kid, I feel like something's wrong with that Doranbolt" Karna was surprised at the question. He was not surprised about being asked the question as the chances of others finding out were high. What surprised him was the person who was asking him the question.
Karna looked outside the window.
"Why are you looking outside the window when I asked you a question kid" Gildarts asked confused.
"Oh, nothing much, seeing that you are showing signs of having a brain is making me check for the signs of the world coming to an end" Karna replied with a very serious expression.
Gildarts had veins pulsing in his head as he realised Karna was mocking him.
"Alright, then that's the way you wanna go brat then fine. Cornelia had already left for home, so there's nobody stopping me from beating the crap out of you with my magic. Gildarts said as his hand began glowing with crush magic energy.
"Hey, come on old man don't be hasty" Karna said as he began slowly moving backwards.
That attack created a minor earthquake all around Magnolia while damaging the newly constructed guild.
Gildarts had been sleeping on the guild bench for the last month when everyone was preparing for the S class trials. Even when the selected members, left, he was still not allowed to return home.
At the time at the Tenrou Island.
"Hehehe, this is going to be fun" Karna muttered as he laid another trap within one of the entrance pathways.
Unlike in the cannon where there were a few paths that were free, this time Karna made sure that every path had a trap and only after successfully passing it would they go to the first test where they either have to get a passing grade from an S class wizard or battle another one of the teams in the S class trial.
"Hey Karna, come over here, I got another idea for a prank, I mean test, test is what I meant" Mavis called out gleefully as many of the traps were designed by her and all of them were aimed at emotionally destroying the guild members rather than making it a challenge for their physical abilities.
"You know, when you see things like these" Ultear spoke.
"You can say for sure that they are related" Cana sighed as the other S class wizard winced at each of the traps being made by these duo who was smiling gleefully.
"Reminds me of what he did to Laxus's rune traps. Some of them still gives me a few nightmares" Mira commented from the side as the other members shivered.
"Haha, I think it is the right choice, this way we can challenge our guildmates and make sure that they are better prepared for the dangers they will face in the future" Erza commended like the knight she was which only earned exasperated sighs from the other S class wizards.
"I feel like Erza would have made the exam even more difficult if we had left the plans to her" Cana said to which the others nodded, agreeing to the sentiment.
"Mavis, I think I have a better idea on how to deal with the test" Karna suddenly stood up as if he had an epiphany.
"What is it?" Mavis asked curiously.
"Instead of randomly testing their luck, why don't we create each path based on their weaknesses. Since we have information of the teams beforehand, why do we have to leave everything to luck" Karna asked as a smile similar to that of the Grinch appeared on his face.
Mavis suddenly had a similar smile.
"We can also use some illusion magic so that they do go to that particular path, in light of the race, they might not even notice when the spell is being cast" Mavis said after which she and Karna began laughing like villains.
"Oh my god, what the hell did those guys do to deserve this" Cana muttered as the other S class wizards nodded.
