The research institute had three floors: two above ground and one below. It housed twenty researchers and two platoons of the U.S. Army. As long as no one secretly contacted the outside or attempted to escape from the institute, the U.S. Army guards would not interfere with the researchers' activities. The person responsible for supervising the project's progress only had supervisory authority, not command power over the research team, which greatly ensured the director's autonomy. Letting professionals do what they are best at was a fundamental principle the Takamagahara Project had to implement.
Yuji Anzai led the three of them down to the basement level. The pristine white walls and ceilings, all exuding a metallic texture, were reminiscent of a Hollywood science fiction film. The circular metal doors in the corridor further enhanced the sci-fi atmosphere, requiring fingerprint and retinal scans for access.
