Only when he held her tightly did he feel truly at ease.
"Why am I here?" Valentine Teller looked up from Mark Reed's warm embrace, her voice still frail.
"You fainted just now."
Mark Reed gently stroked her back, his heart trembling slightly.
Even in a state of unconsciousness, she was so uneasy.
When she cried out, "Don't leave me," it was so despairing.
It pained his heart.
As long as she wanted, he would never leave her and would stay by her side for a lifetime.
"Fainted?" Valentine touched her groggy head, suddenly noticing Mark Reed's bloodstained shirt and exclaimed, "You're bleeding again!"
"Yes, it's okay, it has stopped." Mark Reed managed a weak smile; from losing too much blood and carrying her quickly all the way, he was utterly exhausted.
Seeing her awake now, that feeling of fatigue finally eased.
