IMOGEN'S POV
"I'm Dr. Hassan. I've been overseeing Isaac's care since he arrived. Would you like to step into the hallway so we can talk?"
I followed him out of the room, my eyes never leaving Isaac's still form until the door closed between us. Dr. Hassan led me to a small seating area near the nurses' station.
"Please, sit down," he said gently.
I perched on the edge of a plastic chair, my hands clenched in my lap. "How bad is it?"
Dr. Hassan sat across from me, his expression serious. "Isaac sustained significant injuries in the accident. He has second-degree burns on his left arm and shoulder, which we're treating with specialized dressings. He also has two broken ribs, a fractured wrist, and multiple lacerations."
I nodded, trying to process each piece of information. Burns. Broken bones. Cuts. Bad, but treatable. People recovered from those kinds of injuries.
